Tigers vs Red Sox Analysis
The Tigers started their season with an incredible comeback victory over the Chicago White Sox on Opening Day. However they went on to lose the next two games of the series, including being blown out 10-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Sox had a brutal start to their season, blowing leads to lose the first two games of their season-opening series against their arch rivals the New York Yankees. Boston bounced back to salvage the final game of the series, winning a back-and-forth battle on Sunday night. These teams split six head-to-head meetings in 2021.
Sox Avoid Sweep In The Bronx
The Red Sox gave away leads to ultimately lose their first two games against their arch rivals the New York Yankees. On Sunday night they did it again when the Yankees tied it up 3-3 in the fourth inning. Bobby Dalbec’s solo blast gave the Sox the lead for good as they hung on for a 4-3 victory.
The Red Sox offense is an absolute juggernaut, as they scored the fifth-most runs in the league last season. They did lose Kyle Schwarber and Hunter Renfroe but made the addition of Trevor Story. Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts are two of the games best hitters and the lineup have no weak spots, outside of maybe Jackie Bradley Jr.
Michael Wacha will make his Red Sox debut on Monday as one of Boston’s free agent acquisitions. He burst on the scene in 2013 with the St. Louis Cardinals with a 2.78 ERA and 9.05 K/9 rate. His numbers dropped after his rookie year and he currently has a 4.14 career ERA. The Red Sox will be looking to resurrect his career as his stuff is far better than his performance over the last few seasons.
Tigers Start With Roar, Leave With Whimper
After dramatic 5-4 come back victory over the Chicago White Sox on Opening Day, the Tigers lost the next two games by a combined score of 15-3. Detroit had high hopes coming into the rubber game with young phenom Tarik Skuval on the hill. He couldn’t get the job done as he allowed five runs (four earned) in only four innings while striking out three. The merciless White Sox offense continued to poor it on against the Tigers bullpen. They added runs in the seventh and ninth and put the game out of reach.
Another young pitcher, Matt Manning, gets the start against the Red Sox after starting his Major League career in 2021. He had poor results, with a 5.80 ERA and a 5.13 xFIP over the course of 18 starts.
The Tigers’offense is drastically improved with the additions of Javier Baez, Austin Meadows and Tucker Barnhart. They also have high expectations of highly touted prospect Spencer Torkelson to give their batting order a boost.
Tigers vs Red Sox Prediction
Neither team is sending their best pitcher to the mound, but Michael Wacha has had far more success in the majors compared to Matt Manning. Boston is 8-3 in their last 11 games against the Tigers and 5-2 in their last seven in Detroit.
When you are betting MLB you need to take advantage of these cheap moneyline spots. The Red Sox offense is going to prevail more often than a -115 price would indicate. They also have a pitching advantage. They have a slight edge across the board making -115 seem like a gift.
