Tigers vs Rockies Analysis
The Colorado Rockies start a three game interleague series in Detroit on Friday night against the Tigers. The Tigers salvaged the final game of a three game series with a 3-0 victory at home against the New York Yankees.
The Rockies had a scheduled off day yesterday and fell to the Philadelphia Phillies 9-6 at home on Wednesday. Colorado did win two of three games in the series against Philadelphia and now sit at 8-4 on the season. The Tigers send southpaw Tarik Skubal to the mound to face Rockies right hander Antonio Senzatela.
Rockies Remain Red Hot
The Colorado Rockies had a two game win streak snapped as they lost a slugfest 9-6 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
German Marquez threw six innings of four run baseball and Jhoulys Chacin took the loss giving up three earned runs while only recording an out.
Ryan McMahon went two for five with two doubles and three RBI. The Rockies hitting has been off the charts, they rank 1st in batting average at .284 and in OPS at .798 while scoring 5.17 runs per game.
Kris Bryant leads the Rox in batting average at .349 while C.J. Cron leads the team with 6 home runs and 16 RBI.
The Colorado pitching staff hasn’t been as solid as they allow 4.42 runs a game while ranking 29th in opponent batting average at .274 and 19th in ERA at 3.96. Antonio Senzatela has kept runs to a minimal thus far, he’s 1-0 with 2.16 ERA through two starts.
However he has been getting hit hard and has allowed 16 hits already. He he has been unable to get the third strike with only one punch out.
Tigers Draw Tough Interleague Matchup
The Detroit Tigers snapped their three game losing streak with a victory over the New York Yankees. They will hope to carry the momentum into this series against the Colorado Rockies.
Michael Pineda pitched five shutout innings against his former team and got the win. Leadoff man Robbie Grossman led the offensive attack with a 3-3 performance with a double, RBI & run scored.
The Detroit offense has been as stagnant as they come. They rank 25th with a .207 batting average and 26th with a .599 OP. Miguel Cabrera is one hit away from 3000 and will be chasing history this weekend against the Rockies.
The Tigers will send southpaw Tarik Skubal to the mound and its been a mixed bag for him so far this season. In his last start he pitched 5.2 shutout innings against Kansas City, in his first start he allowed five runs in four innings against the White Sox. Skubal has a tall task in front of him with the Rockies lineup.
Tigers vs Rockies Prediction
The money line is set at -150 for the Detroit Tigers and +130 for the Colorado Rockies with a total of 7.5. The Tigers have not been able to hit right-handed pitching with only a .192 batting average, but Senzatela seems ripe for the picking so it’s tough to predict who wins out there.
The Tigers are still waiting to get Javy Baez back from the injury list. The Tigers have smashed lefties and they have the best batting average in the majors. It’s tough to hit the ball out of Comerica Park but the Rockies be able to take advantage of the big outfield with extra base hits.
Let’s go a different route here and take the Colorado team total over 3.5. We will be guaranteed nine innings of at bats on the road as we ask a potent offense to score four runs with low juice at -105.
Prediction: Colorado Rockies Team Total OVER 3.5 -105
