Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox Analysis
The Boston Red Sox continue their nine game road trip with a three game pit stop at Rogers Centre to face the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays ended up losing two of three interleague games in Milwaukee against the Brewers.
The Red Sox busted out the brooms and swept the Cleveland Guardians off of Progressive Field. The rookie Connor Seabold makes his season debut for Boston, while Kevin Gausman looks to right the ship for Toronto. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST.
Red Hot Sox Pass Rays & Jays
The Boston Red Sox are hands down the hottest team in the major leagues. It’s been that way since May 10th, they have won seven straight games and now own a 19-4 record in June.
They completed a sweep of the Cleveland Guardians with an 8-3 victory yesterday. Rich Hill kept the Guardians off the board as he scattered five hits and four walks while allowing only one run in six innings.
Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez both had three hits and Catcher Christian Vazquez had two doubles. After a horrendous April Boston now ranks 8th in runs, 5th in OPS and second in batting average.
The Sox starting pitching has also been top notch as they rank 5th in ERA and 8th in XFIP since May 1st. Their will need to be ready to eat some innings on Monday night as Connor Seabold makes his season debut in only his second career appearance.
He threw three innings and allowed two runs in a start late last season. Seabold has been outstanding in Triple-A but will probably only be asked to throw four or five innings in this contest.
Toronto Runs Cold
The Toronto Blue Jays have hit the skids as they have lost seven of their last ten games. They dropped the last two games over the weekend in Milwaukee, including a 10-3 defeat yesterday.
Jose Berrios was hammered for eight runs on eight hits in only 2.2 innings. Alejandro Kirk went 2 for 4 with a two run blast. The Jays also started slow in April but have turned the corner and are now one of the top units in the game.
They now rank rank 4th in batting average and 3rd in OPS. Toronto has now dropped to 4th place in the American League East with only a few games separating them, the Tampa Bay Rays and Red Sox.
The crafty veteran Kevin Gausman will get the start for the Jays. He is 5-6 with a 3.19 ERA and 1.28 WHIP. He tossed six innings and allowed two runs in his last outing against the Chicago White Sox.
Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox Prediction
The Toronto Blue Jays are heavily favored with a -180 money line, while the Boston Red Sox sit at +155 with a total of 9. This is an easy one for me as this is a showdown between two of the games elite offensive attacks.
We can’t expect much from Seabold as far as length in his season debut and Gausman is very hittable. The Red Sox have big bats that have had success against him, such as Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez. Neither bullpen has been exceptional as Boston ranks 14th in ERA while Toronto ranks 23rd.
I would normally jump to backing Red Sox Nation lately but it’s could be an uphill battle for the youngster Seabold tonight. Give me the over 9 with plenty of confidence.
Prediction: Over 9.5 -110
