Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox Analysis
Division rivals the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays meet for the second of three games on Tuesday night from Rogers Centre. The Jays pounded the Sox 7-2 last night as they took full advantage of a rookie starter. They are now separated by only a half game in the standings. A couple of veteran right-handed pitchers will take the mound as Michael Wacha toes the rubber for Boston and Ross Stripling gets the nod for Toronto. First pitch is slated for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST.
Sox Streak Gets Snapped
The Boston Red Sox watched a seven game winning streak fall by the wayside as lost 7-2 in Toronto last night. Red Sox Nation can’t complain as they are still the hottest team in the game with a 19-5 record in June.
The Jays lineup overwhelmed the rookie Connor Seabold in his season debut. The Sox didn’t provide much for offense but Alex Verdugo went 2 for 4 with a double. Boston is one of the leagues highest scoring teams while ranking 1st in batting average, 3rd in on-base percentage and 5th in slugging percentage.
Michael Wacha will take the hill for Boston with hopes of continuing an impressive campaign. Wacha is 6-1 with a 2.34 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. He threw six innings of two run baseball in a victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Jays Smash Seabold
The Toronto Blue Jays gained a little ground in the crowded American League East with a 7-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox. George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Matt Chapman all hit homeruns against the youngster Seabold.
Kevin Gausman has become a certified Red Sox killer as he threw seven scoreless innings while allowing only four hits and striking out ten. The Jays offense ranks similarly to the Red Sox in scoring and across the board statistically.
They rank 4th in batting average, 6th in on-base percentage and 3rd in slugging percentage. Alejandro Kirk leads the team with a .322 batting average, while Guerrero Jr. leads the team in homeruns with 17 and RBI with 43.
Jays starter Ross Stripling enters this contest on a solid run as he has allowed only three runs in his last three starts. Problem is he doesn’t pitch very deep into games, with six innings being his longest outing of the season.
Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox Prediction
The Toronto Blue Jays are favored on a -140 money line, while the Boston Red Sox sit at +120 with a total of 9.5. This should be a highly competitive game between equal teams that are separated by only a half game in the standings.
Both starters should be able to limit the opposition but potent lineups and poor bullpens make it hard to play a total here. The Red Sox have been in much better form overall and they continued to fight and score a few runs despite being down 7-0 entering the 9th inning.
Taking the Red Sox on a +120 money line with Wacha on the mound seems like the play here. If you are looking for a hitter prop, you could consider Trevor Story as he is 4 for 12 with a homerun against Stripling.
Prediction: Boston Red Sox Moneyline +120
