Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox Analysis
The Boston Red Sox look to salvage the final game of a three game series against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night from Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays stole the game as they scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th to win 6-5.
Toronto now holds a half game lead over Boston in the Wild Card standings. Each team will start their current ace as Nick Pivetta gets the nod for the Sox and Alek Manoah toes the rubber for the Jays. First pitch is slated for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST.
Blue Jays Bring Brooms to Rogers Centre
The Toronto Blue Jays look to sweep the Boston Red Sox after already winning the series with a 6-5 victory on Tuesday night.
Toronto stole the game in the bottom of the 9th behind back-to-back RBI singles by Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Ross Stripling had a serviceable outing with five innings of two run baseball.
The bullpen allowed three runs and would have sold the game if not for the bats. The Jays boast one of the leagues top lineups as they rank 8th in scoring, 4th in batting average and 6th in on-base percentage.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leads the team with 18 homeruns and 45 RBIs. Alek Manoah is a potential Cy Young award candidate as he is 9-2 with a 2.05 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. He hurled 6.2 innings in his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers and allowed two runs on five hits.
Sox Set To Get Back On Track
The Boston Red Sox blew a prime opportunity to even the series as they blew a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 9th inning. Michael Wacha continued his rough patch with four runs allowed on seven hits in only five innings pitched.
Rob Refsnyder went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBI and Trevor Story hit a solo bomb. The Red Sox can right this ship as they are still on an amazing run, having won 11 of their last 15 games.
The Sox offense ranks similarly to the Jays as they are 8th in scoring, 1st in batting average and 3rd in on-base percentage.
The big three of Rafael Devers, J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts all rank top 8 in batting average in the majors. Nick Pivetta will have his work cut out for him as he toes the rubber on Wednesday night.
He’s been brilliant of late with only four runs allowed across 22 innings of work in his last three outings. On the season, he is 8-5 with a 3.25 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.
Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox Prediction
The Toronto Blue Jays are heavily favored with a -158 money line, while the Boston Red Sox sit at +148 with a total of 8.5. These teams are built the same with potent lineups, strong starting pitching and weaker bullpens.
However, the Sox pen is more middle of the pack as the Jays pen rank 24th with a 4.39 ERA. Manoah has been outstanding, but Pivetta has been just as good since early May. For as equal as things are it’s surprising to see the Sox at +150. Let’s take a small shot on some big plus money.
Prediction: Boston Red Sox Moneyline +148
