Toronto Blue Jays vs Kansas City Royals Analysis
The extremely short-handed Kansas City Royals play the second of four games against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night from Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays were unable to take advantage of the Royals missing 10 players due to Canada’s vaccination restrictions and lost 3-1.
The Royals improved to 36-53, while the Jays fell to 47-43. Toronto will turn to the young ace Alek Manoah, while Kansas City turns to the 38 year-old veteran Zack Greinke. First pitch is slated for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST.
Next Man Up
The Kansas City Royals will be short ten players for their weekend series in Toronto. It’s a list that includes key everyday players like Whit Merrifield, Andrew Benintendi, Hunter Dozier, M.J. Melendez and Michael A. Taylor.
It didn’t seem to hinder them on Thursday night as they secured a 3-1 victory. The rookie southpaw Angel Zerpa earned the victory with five innings of one run baseball.
Three relievers combined for four shutout innings against a generally potent Toronto offense. The best remaining hitter in the lineup Bobby Witt Jr went 2 for 4 with a solo blast. The Royals rank 21st in OPS and 26th in runs scored and that’s with a complete roster.
The crafty veteran Zach Greinke gets the nod for KC. He is only 3-5 with a 4.52 ERA on the season. He has quality starts in three of his last four games, including tossing five scoreless innings against the Cleveland Guardians last time out.
Jays Immersed In Cold Spell
The Toronto Blue Jays were unable to take advantage of a watered-down Royals lineup and lost 3-1. Matt Chapman hit a solo blast and Alejandro Kirk hit a double and that was it for extra-base hits. The veteran righty Kevin Gausman hurled six innings of two run baseball and the bullpen did the rest.
The Jays generally have a potent offensive attack as they rank 4th in OPS and 10th in runs. They are immersed in the American League Wild Card log jam so they need to take advantage of this situation. However they have lost 7 of their last 10 games overall.
Toronto turns to young ace Alek Manoah, who is 9-3 with a 2.34 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. He threw six scoreless innings in a victory over the Royals back in June.
Toronto Blue Jays vs Kansas City Royals Prediction
The Toronto Blue Jays money line is through the roof at -340, while the Kansas City Royals sit at +280 with a total of 8. Even the Jays run line is ridiculously priced at -155.
You have to figure that the Blue Jays find a way to take advantage of this situation but not at this price. Monoah has been lights out and held the Royals scoreless through six innings in June. We can get Monoah to earn the win at -130 odds on DK.
This is a great way to attack a game like this. Monoah has earned the victory in 9 of his 17 starts and there is a high probability he earns one tonight.
Prediction: Alek Manoah to Record a Win -130 DK
