Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees Analysis
The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays play the second of three games at Rogers Centre on Tuesday night. The Blue Jays prevailed in extra frames last night with a 3-2 victory off a Vladimir Guerrero Jr single in the 10th.
The Yankees will have to wait at least a few more days to officially clinch the American League East. We have a couple of veteran right-handed pitchers going head-to-head as Jameson Taillon gets the nod for New York and Jose Berrios draws the start for Toronto. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST from north of the border.
Judge Still Sits at 60
The New York Yankees have clinched a playoff spot and came to Toronto looking to clinch their division. However they fell short on Monday night as they lost 3-2 in extra frames. Luis Severino only lasted four innings and gave up two runs on three hits and three walks.
Aaron Judge once again failed to hit a home run, running the streak up to five straight games. Six games is his third longest homer-less streak of the season with a 9 and 7 game run.
Judge had a great head-to-head matchup against Kevin Gausman as he was 8-22 with three homeruns against him. However he has had success against Berrios as well, going 6 for 18 with a longball. The 30 year old Jameson Taillon will take the bump on Tuesday.
Taillon is 13-5 with a 3.90 ERA and 1.12 WHIP on the season. He has faced Toronto five times this season and has been sharp holding them to eight runs across 27 innings of work.
Blue Jays Stay Mathematically Alive In AL East
The Toronto Blue Jays upped their record to 87-67 after beating the Yankess 3-2 in the 10th inning last night. Vladimir Guerrero Jr singled with two outs in bottom of the 10th to drive in the game winning run.
Kevin Gausman kept the Yanks at bay with 6.1 innings of two run baseball. The bullpen clamped things down for the next 3+ innings and took home the victory. Toronto remains alive in the AL East but would essentially need to win out and have a Yankee collapse.
The Jays lineup is one of baseballs elite as they rank 3rd in OPS. It’s been a rough campaign for Jays starter Jose Berrios, he is 11-6 on the season with a 5.27 ERA and 1.41 WHIP. Berrios has faced New York three times and has had mixed results with 10 runs allowed across 18 innings pitched.
Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees Prediction
We have a pick’em with both sides set at -110 on the money line and a total of 7.5. Our play yesterday was on the over 7.5 and we fell short but that’s still the direction I’m looking here. Both lineups have been mashing as the Yankees have averaged 6.2 runs/game over their last ten games while Toronto has averaged 6.3 during the same span.
The over is 6-1 in the Jays last 7 games and 6-1-1 in the Yanks last 8. The Yankees team OPS is .882 over their last 12 games while the Blue Jays sit at .763 over their last 15 games. The only concern I have with the over is Jameson Taillons success with the Toronto lineup this season.
Berrios hasn’t enjoyed the same success with a 4.76 ERA against the Bronx Bombers. The Jays bullpen has also been in rough shape as they rank 23rd in ERA since September 1st.
Let’s fade Berrios and the Blue Jay pen and take the Yankees team total over 3.5. Judge and company will be locked in and we’ll be guaranteed a full nine innings of at bats for a hot offense to score four runs.
Prediction: New York Yankees Team Total Over 3.5 -125
