Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees Analysis
The New York Yankees head north of the border for a three game divisional series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays are coming off a four game split at home against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Yankees have won seven straight games after sweeping a three game set against in another division rival in the Tampa Bay Rays.
The lanky lefty Jordan Montgomery gets the nod for New York, while Toronto turns to the righty Ross Stripling. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM EST/4:07 PST.
Yankees Are a Complete Team
The New York Yankees are on a seven game winning streak and have jumped out to the best record in the majors with a 47-16 record.
They have a staggering 10 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East. In their latest victory they won a close 2-1 game over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Anthony Rizzo went 2 for 4 with a solo blast and two RBI and Clarke Schmidt tossed three scoreless innings as a spot starter. The Yankees get the job done a night-to-night basis with both pitching and hitting.
No surprise, their potent offensive attack ranks 3rd in runs scored. Their pitching has also been lights out as they rank 1st in runs allowed and opponent batting average. The towering southpaw Jordan Montgomery will look to continue that dominance in his start tonight.
He is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP across 66.2 innings of work. He was brilliant in his last outing as he threw seven scoreless innings against the Chicago Cubs.
Blue Jays Look to Gain Ground
The Toronto Blue Jays have tremendous opportunity to gain ground on the Bronx Bombers in their three game home series. However, they need to cautious that they don’t end up losing ground like the Tampa Bay Rays, who were swept earlier this week.
The Jays ended up with a four game split against the Baltimore Orioles after losing their last game 10-2. Kevin Gausman continued his downward spiral as he allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits in only 2.1 innings of work.
Teoscar Hernandez hit a solo job and Alejandro Kirk went 2 for 3 with an RBI. The Toronto offense ranks 11th with an average of 4.6 runs a game. They are top three in both batting average at .258 and OPS at .755.
Jays righty Ross Stripling is 3-1 with a 3.14 ERA across seven starts. He was lights out in his last start where he allowed only one hit across six scoreless innings against the Detroit Tigers.
Toronto Blue Jays vs New York Yankees Prediction
We basically have a pick’em as the New York Yankees have a -115 money line, while the Toronto Blue Jays are set at -105 with a total of 9. We have a showdown between two dynamic offenses that are loaded with explosive bats.
Both starters have the ability to get the job done, but will be tested by Yankee bats that rank 3rd in runs & 2nd in OPS and Blue Jay bats that rank 3rd in OPS and 2nd in batting average. A big part of me wants to take the over here.
However it’s almost impossible to turn down a New York money line at -115 based on how incredible they have been. Let’s make a small play on the Bronx Bombers.
Prediction: New York Yankees Moneyline -109
