Twins vs Athletics Analysis
The Oakland Athletics begin a road trip with a three-game series at Target Field in Minnesota against the Twins. The Twins lost their last two games, getting sent home from Baltimore with a four-game split against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Athletics endured back-to-back three game sweeps, losing every game in the six game homestand. On Wednesday, they were shutout 3-0 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Rookie southpaw Zach Logue gets the nod for the Rays, while rookie right hander Josh Winder will be on the bump for the Twins. First pitch is slated for 8:10 PM EST.
No A’s For Athletics
It’s been tough sledding for an Oakland Athletics team that is dealing with a depleted lineup and pitching staff due to offseason cost cutting moves. They haven’t been much of an offensive threat as they rank 29th in the league in OPS while scoring only 3.68 runs per game.
On Wednesday afternoon, the A’s were swept in the third and final game of a three game set at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. Oakland finished the homestand 0-6, dropping their home record to 4-9 and overall record at 10-15.
Starter Frankie Montas actually was spot on in the loss, tossing seven shutout innings. However the bullpen ultimately coughed up the game in the 8th inning. Rookie starter Zach Logue will get his 1st career start after only making one relief appearance in mid-April.
This will ultimately turn into a bullpen game for the Athletics as you can’t expect the young southpaw to pitch very deep into the game.
Cruising Twins Hit Minor Speed Bump
The Minnesota Twins have an amazing start to 2022 after a rather disappointing 2021. They had won 8 straight games prior to losing their last two against the Baltimore Orioles. The Twins closed their latest road trip with a 5-3 loss in Baltimore against the Orioles.
Byron Buxton continued to punish opposing pitching with a two run blast in 5th inning. Buxton leads the team in homeruns and is second in RBI despite missing 8 games. Starter Chris Archer only lasted four innings while giving up two runs, both on solo homers.
It looks like the Twins will be playing without manager Rocco Baldelli, infielder Luis Arraez and starting pitcher Dylan Bundy as they all tested positive for Covid-19. The Twins look to spot starter Josh Winder to get them back on track.
Winder was spot on in his last start against the Tampa Bay Rays, hurling six shutout innings while allowing only two hits and striking out seven.
Twins vs Athletics Prediction
The money line is set at +155 for the Oakland Athletics and -170 for the Minnesota Twins with a total of 7.5. It’s going to be spot starts and bullpen games for both teams. It makes me want to take the over, but I’m not sure we can trust the A’s hitting.
The Twins on the other hand, have the 8th most homeruns in the league with 26. The Athletics team ERA is 5.56 over their 6-game losing streak. The Twins team total is set at 4.5 with +110 odds, a total they have cleared in 8 of their last 12 games.
Let’s put our money on the Twins scoring 5 again against what has become a bullpen game for Oakland.
