White Sox vs Red Sox Analysis
The Boston Red Sox travel to Chicago to open a three game series against the White Sox on Tuesday night. The White Sox prevailed in both games of a doubleheader while winning a three series against the New York Yankees in the process.
The Red Sox have won five straight games after sweeping the Seattle Mariners in their four game series. Chicago swept Boston in a three series at Fenway Park back in April.
It was a closer series than a sweep would imply as the Pale Hose won two of the games by one run and the third by only two runs.
Red Sox starter Nick Pivetta gets the nod, while Dylan Cease takes the mound for Chicago. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.
Cordero’s Slam Sends Sox Seeking Sixth Straight
After a disappointing start to the season, the Boston Red Sox may be back on track after winning five straight and 8 of their last 10 games. Sundays finale against the Seattle Mariners provided plenty of drama.
Trevor Story continued his torrid pace with a home run in the 6th that ended up sending the game to extra innings. With the game knotted up in the bottom of the 10th, Franchy Cordero completed the sweep with an epic walk-off grand slam.
Nathan Eovaldi may have gotten back on track with 6.2 innings of two run baseball while striking out 11. More importantly he basically kept the ball in the yard, allowing only one homerun as opposed to the five he gave up in less than an inning against the New York Yankees.
The Red Sox have quietly climbed the statistical leaderboards and now rank about average with 4.24 runs a game on a .692 OPS. The Boston pitching staff is also middle of the pack with a 3.84 team ERA.
Red Sox Nation will turn to Nick Pivetta who has been Boston’s most dominant starter of late. In his four May starts, Pivetta is 2-1 with a 1.71 ERA across 26.2 innings of work.
White Sox Sweep Double Dip
The Chicago White Sox are on a hot streak of their own, winning their last two and three of their last four games. They swept the New York Yankees in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon by a combined score of 8-1.
The young ace Michael Kopech tossed seven scoreless innings for the victory. Leadoff slugger Tim Anderson went 3 for 5 with a three run blast in the 8th.
The Pale Hose offense has fallen well short expectations as they rank 6th to last in runs scored with a .649 OPS. Dylan Cease will make his 9th start with hopes of continuing an impressive campaign.
So far he is 4-1 with a 3.09 ERA and 67 strikeouts in only 43.2 innings of work. In his last start against the Kansas City Royals, he threw 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing seven hits and two walks.
White Sox vs Red Sox Prediction
The Chicago White Sox money line is set at -155, while the Boston Red Sox are set at +145 with a total of 7.5. Both teams are heating up that should only continue going forward as they get reinforcements of the IL.
Bullpens are about equal as well as both teams are middle of the pack. Chicago has a slight starting pitching edge, but it’s close considering Pivettas incredible current form. The Red Sox hot bats have caught fire, making them worth a small plus money play.
Prediction: Boston Red Sox Moneyline +145
