White Sox vs Red Sox Analysis

The Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox square off in the second of three games from Guarrnteed Rate Field. The Red Sox won Game 1 in convincing fashion by the score of 16-3.

The White Sox turn to one of their most consistent pitchers in Lucas Giolito. He will be opposed by the aging veteran Rich Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST/5:10 PST.

Red Sox Rolling

After an agonizing start, the Boston Red Sox have finally caught fire and have won six straight games. Their offense has become the buzzsaw that was expected as they have scored 5+ runs in all six of those games.

They have scored double digit runs twice during that span including yesterday’s 16-3 mauling of the Chicago White Sox.

Every hitter in the starting lineup collected at least two total bases with hits and Rafael Devers, Trevor Story, Christian Vazquez and Kike Hernandez all hit homeruns. Starter Nick Pivetta did his job limiting the White Sox lineup to three runs in six innings of work and three relief pitchers each threw a shutout inning to complete the game.

Story has been a spark plug for the Sox offense as he has hit 8 long balls in his last 13 games after going 30 games without a single home run.

The 42 year-old starter Rich Hill will look to bounce back from a poor outing where he gave up four runs on six hits in only two innings of work. Dick Mountain has been respectable on the season with a 3.90 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with a 23/8 K/BB ratio across 30 innings.

White Sox Regroup With Giolito

The Chicago White Sox will send Lucas Giolito to the bump for his 7th start of the season. He gave up two runs on seven hits in five innings in his last outing against the Kansas City Royals.

The Pale Hose sluggers are off to a sluggish start to the season, they have the third lowest OPS in the league while ranking bottom ten in slugging percentage and runs scored.

They managed only three runs yesterday, with first baseman Jose Abreu going 2 for 3 with a two run blast. Starter Dylan Cease got lit up, giving up seven runs in only three innings.

The bullpen didn’t fair much better with 9 more runs allowed in the next six innings. Despite their slow start, the White Sox still occupy 2nd place behind the Minnesota Twins in the truly awful American League Central.

White Sox vs Red Sox Prediction

The money line is set for -165 for the Chicago White Sox and +145 for the Boston Red Sox with a total of 7.5. Rich Hill has only faced the White Sox once despite his lengthy career.

This crafty southpaw gets the edge as they won’t be familiar with his unique pitching style. Giolito could be in trouble here as he has allowed 7 home runs in only six starts this season.

This doesn’t bode well against a Boston lineup that has tagged 17 blasts in their last 10 games. Based on how hot the Red Sox lineup is I am shocked that we get +145 odds. I’m actually surprised the total is only 7.5 as well. I will confidently play both the Red Sox money line at +145 as well as the over 7.5.

Predictions:
Boston Red Sox +150
Over 7.5
