White Sox vs Royals Analysis
Two losing streaks collide at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago on Tuesday night, when the Kansas City Royals start a three game series with the White Sox.
The Royals have lost four straight games dropping their record to 5-9 on the season. The White Sox are one-upping them with a seven game losing streak, resulting in a 6-9 season record.
This is the first head-to-head series between these American League Central rivals this season. The Royals edged the White Sox out last year, winning the season series 10-9.
It will be a battle of southpaw starters with veteran lefty Dallas Keuchel pitching for Chicago and second year starter Daniel Lynch for Kansas City.
Royals Flush Last Four Games
The Kansas City Royals were swept over the weekend against the Seattle Mariners pushing their losing streak to four games.
The Royals are dead last in the American League Central with a record of 5-9 on the season. On Sunday they lost a 12 inning heartbreaker 5-4 on a Jesse Winker RBI single.
Not a surprise but Salvador Perez stood out offensively with two doubles and an RBI. Reliever Joel Payamps took the loss as he allowed the 12th inning run. The Royals have struggled with both hitting and pitching as a team.
They rank 27th in runs with only 3.1 per game and 24th in team ERA at 4.47. Lefty Daniel Lynch takes the mound with hopes to end the losing streak for the Royals.
Lynch was sharp in his last start, shutting out the Minnesota Twins for five innings while allowing four hits. His is now 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two starts with nine strikeouts and two walks. Lynch was rocked in his three starts against the White Sox last season, with a 1-2 record and a ridiculous 16.20 ERA.
White Sox Set Out To Stop Skid At Seven
The White Sox heard about the Royals four game losing streak and said “Hold my beer”.
After starting the season 6-2 Chicago has lost seven straight games, dropping their record to 6-9 on the season. The team heavily favored to win the American League Central is currently tied for third place, only a half game ahead of the last place Royals.
They have endured back-to-back sweeps at the hands of their division rivals the Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins. On Sunday, the Pale Hose blew a 3-1 seventh inning lead to lose an extra inning heartbreaker on a Byron Buxton three-run walk-off home run.
Tim Anderson was the offensive standout going 2 for 5 with a home run. Reliever Liam Hendricks took the loss as he allowed three runs in the last 1.1 innings of the game. Dallas Keuchel will start for Chicago but he can’t inspire very much confidence.
Keuchel is 1-1 with a horrendous 15.00 ERA across six innings in two starts. He got crushed in his last start allowing 8 earned runs on 10 hits in just one inning in an 11-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians.
White Sox vs Royals Prediction
The money line is set at -160 for the Chicago White Sox and +140 for the Kansas City Royals with a total of 8.5. These teams have so much in common its ridiculous. Both start struggling southpaws, both stuck in lengthy losing streaks and both are bottom five in most offensive categories.
However I feel like the poor hitting wins in out based on how bad these starting pitchers have been. Both teams are underachieving on offense but I can’t back either starting pitcher and I would expect crooked numbers by both sides. Give me the over.
Prediction: Over 8.5 Total Runs Scored
