Yankees vs Blue Jays Analysis
The Toronto Blue Jays travel to New York for an AL East battle with the Yankees. Both teams enter this four-game series with 2-1 records after the Jays took two of three from Texas while New York did the same against Boston.
Both teams also have stacked lineups and solid pitching staffs and both expect to win the AL East. The Yankees lost their last game of the series against Boston 4-3 on Sunday night baseball. Toronto went 11-8 in head-to-head meetings with the Yankees last season.
Yankees Look to Assert Early Dominance
The New York Yankees got a bit of revenge on the Boston Red Sox after being knocked out of the Wild Card game last season. It’s clear that every inter-division game is important, especially in this division where a 91-win Toronto team missed the playoffs last season. The Yankees would like nothing more than to start the season with two series victories over two rival contenders.
As it seems every year, New York has a deep and powerful offensive attack. The thought of Josh Donaldson being added to Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo is terrifying.
The Yankees will start Jameson Taillon who is coming off a mediocre season with a 8-6 record and 4.30 ERA. The New York staff held a potent Boston offense to only 11 runs in three games this weekend. Last season they ranked sixth in ERA and fourth in strikeouts.
Blue Jays’ Stacked Lineup
The Toronto Blue Jays possess a dynamic and powerful lineup that rivals any offense in the MLB. They have already scored 20 runs in three games due to the hot starts from George Springer, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Toronto scored the third-most runs last season, while leading the league in home runs with 262.
With the departure of Cy Young award winner Robbie Ray, Alek Manoah is slotted in the fourth spot of the Jays’ rotation. Manoah had a solid rookie campaign with a 9-2 record and 3.22 ERA. He will look to build on that against the challenging Yankee lineup on Monday night.
Yankees vs Blue Jays Prediction
Both starting pitchers had mixed results against the opposition last season. It’s seems hard to step in front of either one of these lineups right now. Most offenses don’t fully click until the hot weather comes around.
The Jays have already scored 20 runs themselves in only three games. The Yankees were not to shabby with 13 runs of their own. Expect both teams to make some noise and clear this total by taking advantage of the small stadium in the Bronx tonight.
Official Play: OVER 9 Runs (-120)
