Yankees vs Blue Jays Analysis
The Toronto Blue Jays wrap up a four game series in the Bronx, New York against the Yankees. The Yankees look to split the series and move above .500 as they currently sit at 3-3 on the season. The Blue Jays aim to continue their early season dominance and improve to 5-2 with a series victory. Toronto had success against the Yankees in 2021, winning the season series 11-8.
Three Bombs For Vladdy Jr.
The Toronto Blue Jays have a lot of reasons to be excited offensively as their youngsters are a year older and they have added veteran third baseman Matt Chapman. Last night Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went off, belting three homeruns and driving in four runs in the 6-4 win over the New York Yankees. Vladdy Jr. ended the night 4-4 and improved his season average to .391.
Jose Berrios faired better than he did on Opening Day, hurling five innings of three run baseball with five strikeouts and three free passes. Four different relievers pitched in inning each and allowed only one run combined.
Toronto turns to newly acquired starter Kevin Gausman to win the game and ultimately the series. Gausman’s first start was a mixed bag, with five innings of work allowing three earned runs on eight hits and non walks. Gausman has pitched at Yankee Stadium 12 times and is 3-3 with 25 runs allowed in 56 innings of work.
Yanks Hope To Salvage Series Split
The New York Yankees look to Luis Severino to get a split in this four game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Severino pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs in his first start of the season against the Boston Red Sox. He has made 14 appearances against the Toronto Blue Jays in his career and posted a 5-3 record with a 3.71 ERA.
Last night Gerrit Cole threw 5.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk. Chad Green took the loss in relief of Cole.
They Yankees haven’t exactly been the Bronx Bombers we gave become accustomed too. They have a team OPS of .696 with an average of 3.4 runs per game. They finally got some power out of All-Star slugger Aaron Judge. Judge had two hits and blasted his first home run of the season. Gleyber Torres also hit his first home run of the season.
Yankees vs Blue Jays Prediction
It’s tough to have much confidence in either starting pitcher, especially against these potent lineups. However they went over the total for the first time in three games yesterday. The Yankee bullpen has been dominant as they rank first in the American League (second in the MLB) with a 0.99 team ERA. The Blue Jays pen hasn’t been horrible as they rank 18th in ERA.
So let’s keep the bullpens out of it and go after these starters. We get even money on over 4.5 first five inning runs. Five runs through five innings seems more than likely tonight in New York.
Official Play: OVER 4.5 F5 Runs (first five innings)
