Yankees vs Orioles Analysis

The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees square off in the second game of a three game at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Yankees won their fourth straight game in a 12-8 slugfest over the Orioles last night. It was the Orioles second straight loss, dropping their record to 6-11 on the season.

Second year starter Tyler Wells get the start for Baltimore, while the lanky lefty Jordan Montgomery gets the nod for the Bronx Bombers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST.

Rizzo Hits Hat Trick of Homers

Anthony Rizzo continued his torrid pace, blasting homeruns for 6 RBI and leading his team to a 12-8 victory. Rizzo now has a league leading 8 long balls to go along with 18 RBI. He has proven to be an amazing addition to the Bronx Bombers.

The Yanks rank 6th in slugging percentage and 9th OPS to open the season. Starter Luis Severino earned the victory, hurling six innings while allowing four earned runs and striking out five.

The Yankees record stands at 11-6 after winning four straight games and landing them a half game behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East. The towering southpaw Jordan Montgomery gets the nod on Wednesday night.

Montgomery is 0-1 in three starts to open the 2022 campaign, but has pitched far better than his record. He owns a 2.51 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 14 innings including throwing five shutout innings in a no-decision against tonight’s opponent.

Eight Runs Not Enough For O’s

The Baltimore Orioles fought back, after being down 6-0 through five innings they scored eight runs of their own in an attempted comeback.

Unfortunately the Yanks didn’t stop scoring either and the Orioles lost 12-8 in a game with plenty of fireworks. Starting pitcher Jordan Lyles got spanked for six earned runs in only 4.2 innings, taking his second loss of the season.

Right fielder Anthony Santander deposited a three run blast into the bleachers in the 6th inning. It was an unusual offensive outburst for O’s who only score 3.06 runs per game on average while ranking 26th in OPS.

The Orioles turn to right-handed starter Tyler Wells, but he hasn’t very impressive so far this season. Wells is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.88 WHIP.

He did throw four shutout innings against the Yankees in a no-decision earlier this month. It would be in the Orioles best interest to not get into another slugfest with the Yankees, but it seems inevitable.

Yankees vs Orioles Prediction

The money line is through the roof at -250 for New York and +200 for Baltimore with a total set at 8. The Yankees have been on an amazing run against the Orioles, they are 42-16 in their last 58 games over the course of the last three seasons.

The Yanks have advantages across the board again tonight. New York has hit 22 homeruns as a team, while the Orioles have only landed 8.

That’s right, Anthony Rizzo alone has hit just as many longballs as Baltimore has as a team. Jordan Montgomery has very strong career numbers against Baltimore and should be able to continue that trend on Wednesday night.

New York also has an advantage in the bullpen, where they rank 7th in ERA compared to the O’s ranking of 13th. It’s doesn’t take a genius to look in the direction of the Yankees, but you aren’t going to be profitable long term taking -250 money line favorites in Major League Baseball.

However you can get the run line for only -120. With the Yankee bats catching fire last night it seems like a great spot for a multiple run victory.

Prediction: New York Yankees Runline -1.5 -120
