Covington vs Masvidal Analysis

No. 1 contender Colby Covington has climbed to a -350 betting favorite at some sports books over No. 6-ranked contender Jorge Masvidal.

Both fighters come into this meeting with extreme motivation to gain the upper hand and overall bragging rights on what has been a very public, nasty feud.

Covington comes into this fight off of a close decision loss to champion along with P4P king, Kamaru Usman. Masvidal also comes into this fight off of back-to-back losses coming at the hands of Kamaru Usman. This will mark the eighth time in his last nine contests that Masvidal closes as the betting underdog.

The BMF

Jorge Masvidal comes into this fight as a made man regarding UFC superstar status. He’ll be able to reach unbelievable new heights if he can pull off the major upset against former best friend along with teammate Colby Covington.

Masvidal has a challenging task ahead of him, coming off two championship losses against Kamaru Usman. Masvidal will look to recapture the magic from his run in 2019 when he went 3-0 with three finishes over the likes of Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz. Masvidal has shown a fantastic, well-rounded game and developing skills that have come to match his toughness plus competitiveness inside the octagon.

The Cardio King

Covington can quiet all haters this weekend if he delivers on his promise to dominate Masvidal for the entirety of the fight. Covington will most definitely have the advantage in this fight when it comes to pace, along with wrestling skills.

Covington is, for my money, the most skilled while dominant fighter in the UFC to not hold a belt at this very moment. Covington has won eight of his previous ten UFC fights, with both losses coming at the hands of Kamaru Usman.

Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal Prediction

While both men have losses on their records, I expect to see the best versions of both Covington and Masvidal come Saturday night. It’s tough to find an edge when it comes to motivation along with pressure in this bout. Considering all of this and skillsets, I’d lean Covington but not at his current price. Instead, I recommend the over 4.5 rounds in this bout as both men have been highly durable, along with the fact I expect Covington to attempt takedowns while also working the clinch, which can drain the clock.
