2024 PFL Battle of the Giants Predictions

AJ McKee -192 vs Paul Hughes +160

Paul Hughes is a young, talented prospect, but this is such a massive step up in competition for him. McKee is relentless with his pressure and takedowns, and Hughes hasn’t fought anyone like him.

McKee is 22-1 in his career with his only loss being to Pitbull when he was at his peak, and other than that he’s been a force that nobody can figure out.

Hughes has been fighting in Cage Warriors, and last fight he made the jump to Bellator where he fought a 40-year old, and got the easy win.

This is too much, too fast for Hughes, McKee will dominate on the ground for the entire fight, or get the submission.

Husein Kadimagomaev -1200 vs Zafar Mohsen +750

Not much you can do with this, but Husein is going to get rag dolled for this fight. He’s a German fighter, and the German MMA scene is pretty bad.

He’s been fighting some bad fighters as his last two wins are against a 3-2 fighter and a 5-5 fighter in small leagues.

Husein can finish by striking or by submission, I’ll go with a submission win for him, but the price is so crazy I would say there’s not much to bet on in this one.

Johnny Eblen -360 vs Fabian Edwards +285

This is a rematch from a year ago where Eblen got the ground-and-pound finish, and it would take something very drastic to change in order to see a different outcome.

Eblen is 15-0, and while I don’t think he ends his career undefeated, I don’t think Edwards is that guy. Edwards has decent striking, but he’s going to have to get ultra-aggressive and not let Eblen get in a groove, and he can’t let Eblen get inside to work the clinch and takedown game.

Once Eblen takes control of the pace, he’s impossible to stop, and Edwards isn’t a guy to deal with adversity very well. Eblen should win, and is a fine parlay piece.

Cris Cyborg +123 vs Larissa Pacheco -148

I’m a bit confused by what Cyborg has been doing recently as she beat Cat Zingano easily a year ago, but had two boxing matches before that, and since the Zingano fight, she’s done another two boxing matches against nobodies who have no boxing experience.

It’s just been strange to watch, and is she really in shape and ready for Pachecco? She really hasn’t been fighting great fighters since her loss to Amanda Nunes in 2018, and we know she’s going to come out with heavy strikes, but if Pacheco weathers the storm and takes Cyborg down, she’s going to be in a bad position, and that’s clearly what the books are telling us is likely to happen.

Cyborg is 39 years old, Pacheco is only 30, and I think her power with the clinch and takedowns will eventually be too much for Cyborg.

If Cyborg wins, it will be by KO, and Pacheco can absolutely finish her on the ground so taking this fight to not go the distance is an interesting look as well.

2024 PFL Battle of the Giants Main Event: Francis Ngannou -240 vs Renan Fereira +210

I’m stunned Ngannou is this big of a favorite. He hasn’t fought in MMA in almost 3 years, and in that fight we didn’t see his power that he’s known for as him and Gane went the distance.

In his two boxing matches, he has been awful losing to Fury, who didn’t train for the fight, and then getting flatlined by Anthony Joshua.

His knees are a big concern, and his getting up there in age, not to mention his motivation is money these days, and he’s getting a nice chunk of money to fulfill his PFL contract in this one.

Fereira has been knocking guys out the last couple years, so there’s no worry about his power. The biggest concern for him is can he stop Ngannou from wrestling and getting double leg takedowns.

If it goes on the ground, Fereira is in trouble, but if he keeps in on the feet, I think he wins and KO’s Francis.

There are too many red flags on Ngannou to lay this kind of juice. I’ll look to the unders in this fight as Fereira can win by KO, and NGannou can win by ground and pound if he gets on top.
