Curtis Blaydes vs Tom Aspinall

Manchester’s Tom Aspinall has opened as the mild -130 favorite over American Curtis Blaydes in the heavyweight main event. No. 6-ranked Aspinall brings an eight-fight win streak into Saturday’s UFC London event, with only one of those seven fights making it into the second round. This will be Aspinall’s sixth fight in the UFC, with five victories over Alexander Volkov (armbar submission), Sergey Spivak (TKO), Andrei Arlovski (rear-naked choke), Alan Baudot (TKO) and Jake Colloer (TKO). Aspinall’s last loss came in 2016 via disqualification.

While Aspinall has shown to be a quick worker in the UFC, “Razor” Blaydes doesn’t mind taking his time in the octagon. Blaydes hasn’t been involved in a first round finish since 2018, where he got knocked out by Francis Ngannou. Since that loss to Ngannou, Blaydes has won six of his last seven fights, including victories over Junior dos Santos (TKO), Alexander Volkov (decision) and Jairzinho Rozenstruik (decision). Oddsmakers have opened the total for Saturday’s main event at over/under 3.5 rounds.

Jack Hermansson vs Chris Curtis

Curtis has earned the nickname “The Action Man” and he’s certainly lived up to it over the last year. This will be his fifth fight in the last 12 months as he steps in for Liverpool’s Darren Till, who was forced out of this contest because of a knee injury. Curtis has won his last eight fights, with six of them coming via stoppage. Curtis defeated Rodolfo Vieira by decision, just four weeks ago on June 25.

Curtis opened as the -135 favorite at Caesars, but support has come in for the 34-year-old Hermansson. The Joker certainly holds a strength-of-schedule advantage over his American counterpart. Hermansson has alternated wins and losses over his last seven fights, but those fights have come against Jared Cannonier (fought for the title three weeks ago), Marvin Vettori (fought for the title last June) and Kelvin Gastelum (fought for the title in 2019). At the time of posting, oddsmakers have this matchup lined at a pick’em.

UFC London Fight Card

The rest of the UFC London undercard is loaded with storylines. Fan-favorite Paddy Pimblett will take another step up in class as he takes on Contender Series lightweight Jordan Leavitt. The electric Pimblett has opened as the -250 favorite over the unconventional Leavitt, with oddsmakers not expecting this one to go the distance.

Pimblett’s Liverpool neighbor Molly McCann will make her return to the octagon after a thrilling spinning back elbow knockout of Luana Carolina in March. McCann will take on another Contender Series alum, Hannah Goldy. After openeing as a -275 favorite, “Meatball Molly” has climbed north of -400, in what is expected to be a relatively comfortable matchup for her.

Former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson will step into the cage for the first time in two years against light heavyweight Nikita Krylov. Gustafsson lost his last three fights before taking some time off, while Krylov has lost three of his last four fights. Oddsmakers are lukewarm on Gustaffson’s comeback attempt after such a long layoff. Krylov has opened as the -190 favorite.

Submission specialist Paul Craig looks to add another accolade to his UFC trophy case against Volkan Oezdemir. Craig has eight UFC wins. He’s earned the Performance of the Night bonus in seven of those wins. You probably don’t want to take a bathroom break during that one. Oezdemir has opened as the -160 favorite over the Scotland native.
