Rob Font vs Marlon Vera Analysis
These two men have made quite the name for themselves over their respective UFC tenures. Rob Font joined the UFC in 2014 and since has posted a 9-4 record, while having competed against former champions Cody Garbrandt and Jose Aldo.
Marlon Vera has grown up inside the UFC octagon; having signed with the promotion at the age of 21, he’s made the walk to the octagon 18 times thus far. He has finally earned his first UFC Main Event. This will be the fourth time in six fights that Marlon Vera closes as the underdog. He’s 1-2 in that spot over that stretch.
‘Chito’
Marlon Vera has become a fan favorite with the way he approaches his fights with an insane pace that he matches with the extreme toughness he’s shown on countless occasions. Vera is exceptionally well-rounded, with eight of his victories coming via submission and five via TKO/KO.
When Vera entered the UFC in 2014, he was unknown. Early into his UFC run, he found himself in trouble starting 1-2 inside the octagon but is now 11-4 since and coming off a KO victory over former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Vera has never been finished in his 26-fight career.
The New England Cartel
Massachusetts native and New England Cartel gym member Rob Font believes he’s heading towards UFC gold. Valuable lessons were learned in his most recent fight against Jose Aldo in which his chin was tested, and his cardio was put to the test. While he lost the fight, the lessons learned and the experience gained against the top level of competition will make him much better.
In this matchup against Marlon Vera, I see Rob Font looking to stay at range while working his crisp jab and testing the takedown defense of Marlon Vera early and often. Rob Font has been finished just once, showing his durability.
Rob Font vs Marlon Vera Prediction
Both men have shown tremendous durability throughout their respective careers, with seven of the past 12 men’s UFC main events going the distance. I like the over in this fight: Over 4.5 Rounds (-155).
