Toyota Owners 400 Track: Richmond Raceway

Richmond is a unique track in that it’s 0.75 miles, and it’s shaped like the letter D. It’s not as flat as a Martinsville, but certainly not as banked as the cookie cutter 1.5-mile tracks or even Bristol. I would imagine tire wear is going to be a massive story in this race as teams and drivers will want to avoid the disaster that they had at Bristol.

Toyota Owners 400 Schedule

Practice will start at 10:30 AM ET on Saturday with Qualifying right after it at 11:15 AM ET. The race is Sunday at 7:00 PM ET.

Top Average Finishes (Bristol, Phoenix, Las Vegas)
*I took out the average finishes at the road course and the superspeedways.

1. Martin Truex Jr 5.3

2. Ty Gibbs 5.7

3. Brad Keselowski 6.7

4. Kyle Larson 6.7

5. Denny Hamlin 6.7

Notable Drivers With Bad Finishes

1. William Byron 21.0

2. Joey Logano 21.7

3. Kyle Bush 24.3

4. Bubba Wallace 26.7

Richmond Average Finishes Last 4 Races

1. Denny Hamlin 6.8

2. Martin Truex Jr 7.3

3. Christopher Bell 8.0

4. Joey Logano 8.5

5. Kyle Busch 8.8

Toyota Owners 400 Head-to-Head Prediction

Denny Hamlin -150 vs William Byron

It’s juicy, but I love it. Byron has been struggling this year on the ovals, and when we get a driver who is on a bad streak, I just fade until they get out of their funk.

Hamlin has run well this season as noted above in the recent finish averages while Byron has been terrible.

Hamlin loves this track, always has, and he knows how to manage brakes and tires as well as anyone here. I don’t put much into the win last week as it was on a road course.

Toyota Owners 400 Top 10 Pick

Joey Logano -125

It’s not been a great start to the year for Logano, but this is a great track for him as he’s averaged an 8.3 finish here the last four races.

This track is different from all the other tracks they’ve raced on this year which should bode well for him as they haven’t found the right setup yet. Look for Logano to get into the top 10.

Toyota Owners 400 Manufacturer Winner Prediction

2.4 units on Toyota -120
1 unit on Chevy +240

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Toyota and Chevy have won all the races this season, and although Buescher won at Richmond last year in a Ford, there are too many Chevy’s and Toyota’s who run well here. We’ll keep fading the Fords for a couple more weeks with this strategy.
