2021-22 Indiana Pacers Betting Preview

NBA Basketball

Indiana Pacers Season Outlook

WagerTalk handicapper Andy Lang offers his betting preview for the 2021-22 Indiana Pacers. The Pacers have hired Rick Carlisle to take the coaching reins after missing the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.

Prop betting specialist Andy Lang is releasing his first NBA Team/Player Season Prop Package for WagerTalk. Lang has hit 67% of his season totals in the NFL, and is excited to bring that winning percentage to the NBA. This pack will include all team season wins totals as well as player season props.

Indiana Pacers Betting Preview

Odds below courtesy of DraftKings Sports Book as of Sunday, October 17:

  • NBA Championship: 100-to-1
  • Eastern Conference Championship: 40-to-1
  • Central Division: 11-to-1
  • Regular Season Wins: 42.5 (Over -115 / Under -105).
  • To Make the Playoffs: Yes -175 / No +145

Insiders know how bad the coaching situation was last year with the Pacers, but I don’t think the general public does. Last year the coach came in and rubbed everyone the wrong way from the start. He was disliked immediately by staff and players, and despite him knowing the game and strategy better than most, if the team doesn’t believe in you, it’s just not going to work. And last season it didn’t work as the Indiana Pacers finished 34-38. They bring in Rick Carlisle which I believe to be a perfect fit for this team. Every team deals with injuries, but the Pacers were one of the most snake-bitten team as Myles Turner missed significant time as did Brogdon, and they even traded for Lavert who ended up missing most of the season with a tumor. TJ Warren isn’t completely healthy coming into the season, but overall the team is much more healthy now, and Warren will eventually be 100% to provide much needed scoring.

The losses of McDermott and Aaron Holiday can’t be ignored as they were real contributors, but I believe their minutes and stats can be filled in with the return of injured players and current starters. I am a believer in Malcolm Brogdon and Caris LeVert, but they need structure and quality coaching in order to flourish, and I’m pushing my chips all in that Rick Carlisle can do that, and he will have them playing at a high level by mid season. If Turner is 100%, this team has a defensive MVP candidate, and they have a legit all-star in Sabonis, who I think is in line for a huge year with the stabilization of the perimeter, and the overall improvement in organization and belief in their game plan.

The Indiana Pacers should have much better health and coaching this season which should make a drastic difference in their regular season. They have a low ceiling in the post-season, but this roster is built for a solid regular season, and I really like them to explode in the wins column the second half of the year. In their last 30 games, 14 of them are against Orlando, OKC, Washington, Houston, and Detroit. So even if their wins total is around .500 going into February, expect a nice run out of them late. I’ll take them to get to 45-47 wins this season and get over this 42.5 total.
