Atlanta Hawks Betting Odds

NBA Championship Odds: +4500
Southeast Division Odds: +170
Regular Season Win Total: 45.5 (o -120 / u EV)

The Hawks are coming off a disappointing 2021-22 season in which they reached the Eastern Conference play-in game defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers, but ultimately were handled in the first round of the playoffs losing to the Heat in five games.

After pushing the Bucks to a six-game series in the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2020-21 season, can the Hawks get back to the upper tier of the conference or will they flirt with the play-in level once again?

Griffin Gets His Feet Wet

The only rookie that will be joining the Hawks’ opening night roster will be former Duke forward AJ Griffin. He’ll likely be playing behind forwards De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic to start the season.

Griffin didn’t play in the team’s summer league games due to a foot injury. but reports are he’s been at full strength in practice and will be ready to go come opening night. He averaged over 10 points per game while shooting 44% from three-point range and 49% overall from the field during his one season at Duke.

Atlanta Hawks’ Acquisitions

It’s been a while, so you may have forgotten the Hawks made a splash early in the summer by acquiring former Spurs guard Dejounte Murray who will join Trae Young in the backcourt in what figures to be one of the league’s best one-two punches heading into the season.

Murray drives the lane without fear and will open up the court for Young to get open three-point shots off. The Hawks had to give up a lot of future draft capital in this trade, though, which includes three first round picks and a first round pick swap.

The team also gave up Danilo Gallinari, who didn’t live up to the hype the Hawks thought when bringing him in. The team also signed guard Aaron Holiday and center Frank Kaminsky in free agency.

Atlanta Hawks 2022-23 Season Outlook

Young and the Hawks should be taking the regular season more seriously this time around so they don’t end up in the play-in round again.

John Collins and Clint Capela remain on the team, making this a scary matchup if you’re an opposing team. If Young and Murray can click right out of the gate, this team could easily secure a top-5 seed heading into the playoffs.
