NBA 6th Man of the Year Award Betting Trends

The NBAs 6th Man of the Year award is given to the league’s best bench player based on a variety of statical categories.

Guards have dominated the award recently, taking home the honors in 11 of the past 12 seasons. Only three centers (Montrezl Harrell 2020, Roy Tarpley 1988, Bill Walton 1986) have won the 6th Man award in its 41-year history.

Both Jamal Crawford (2010, 2014, 2016) and Lou Williams (2015, 2018, 2019) have won the award three times.

2024 NBA 6th Man of the Year Prediction 1: Malcom Brogdon, POR (+800)

Considering that the favorite for the 6th Man of the Year award has +800 odds, we will recommend two plays with small equal bets for nice profit if one cashes.

Malcolm Brogdon was shipped to Portland as part of the Jrue Holiday trade. He is projected to backup Scoot Henderson to provide a veteran presence on a young team.

However, trade rumors are already swirling, and I would be surprised if Brogdon didn’t get traded to contender.

Last season, Brogdon accepted a bench role in Boston and recorded 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

We have seen repeat winners of this award in the past, but it tends to go to a player on a playoff contender. I’m willing to roll the dice that Brogdon is shipped back to another contender which will give him the leg-up on the field.

2024 NBA 6th Man of the Year Prediction 2: Norman Powell, LAC (+1000)

Norman Powell made a compelling case for the 6th Man last season, but injuries took him out of the running.

He ranked third in scoring on the Clippers behind only Kawi Leonard and Paul George with a 17 points per game on just under 40% shooting from beyond the arc. He’s arguably the strongest candidate from a scoring perspective.

For whatever reason, the Clippers organization has dominated this award with five winners in the past 10 seasons and Powell fits the mold of players like Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford.

Powell is part of strong second unit that includes Terrance Mann and Kenyon Martin Jr and unlike Brogdon, he is already on a playoff caliber team. Let’s play Powell at +1000 odds as well.
