NBA Regular Season 6th Man of the Year Trends

The NBA has given out the 6th Man of the Year award (6MOY) since the 1982-83 season and a player must come off the bench in more games than he starts to be eligible for the award.

Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford have won the most 6MOY with three each and the only other players with two are Kevin McHale, Ricky Pierce and Detlef Schrempf. Williams, McHale and Schrempf are the only players to win the award in back-to-back seasons.

2025 NBA 6th Man of the Year Prediction

Malik Monk almost won the 6MOY last season, when he finished 10 points behind Naz Reid in the voting while averaging 15 points and 5 assists per game off the bench in Sacramento. However, he doesn’t offer much value as the only player with odds shorter than 10 to 1.

I strongly considered Donte DiVincenzo as he’s coming off the best season of his career where he averaged 15.5 points per game on 40% shooting from beyond the arc in New York. However, he will be in direct competition with another favorite in Naz Reid.

They could split the vote and if there is an injury to a starter one of them will be next man up. Buddy Hield is a high-volume shooter with a quick trigger, and he was lights out from three-point land with the Indiana Pacers.

Stephen Curry will obviously start, and Steve Kerr loves Brandin Podziemski so Hield will be free to go off while coming off the bench.

Hield will get plenty of looks in a movement offense where he’s replacing Klay Thompson. He’s shown the ability to score 18-20 points per game and he’s a relative iron man as he managed to play 84 games last season in his time with Philadelphia and Indiana.

This can be an unpredictable award to predict so you need to find a player with an opportunity to stack minutes & numbers off the bench and that’s what we have with Hield.
