Atlanta Hawks vs Brooklyn Nets Predictions
- Atlanta Hawks -2 vs Brooklyn Nets
- Total: 228 Points
- Brooklyn has not lost back-to-back games this season.
The first game of a Friday night ESPN double-header features a battle between the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena. The Nets are 17-8 overall and 9-3 on the road. While the Hawks stand at 13-12 and 8-4 at home. Brooklyn has split the first two games of their current 4 game road trip, including a 114-104 loss to the Houston Rockets in their last game. Atlanta is coming off a dominating 121-110 road victory over the Timberwolves in Minnesota. The first head-to-head battle between these teams was won by the Nets at home by a score of 117-108.
After 24 games, the Brooklyn Nets find themselves at first place in the Eastern Conference. The Nets relied heavily on James Harden in his homecoming at Houston, as both Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge sat due to rest. Harden scored 25 points but it wasn’t close to enough as they lost 10 points to the Rockets. Harden is averaging 21 points, 9.3 dimes and 8 rebounds through the first month and a half of the season.
Kevin Durant leads the team in scoring with 28.4 points a game. Harden & Durant have had to do most of the scoring as the Nets have been without Kyrie Irving since the beginning of the season. Brooklyn sharpshooter Joe Harris is also out indefinitely after having surgery on his left ankle. The Nets are averaging just over 109 points a game but sit at 4th in shooting percentage at 46.7%. Surprisingly for a Harden-led team the Nets rank 7th in defensive rating, which is huge improvement compared to last season.
Trae Young has carried the Hawks so far this season while leading the team in both scoring with 26.3 points a game and assists with 9.4 a game. Young had 29 points and 11 assists in a tremendous win against the Minnesota Timberwolves last time out. Clint Capela has done a great job patrolling the paint with almost 13 rebounds a game.
The Hawks will be without wings Bogdan Bogdanovic and DeAndre Hunter, while Cam Reddish is questionable with an injury. Atlanta is averaging a robust 111 points a game, good for 6th in the association. They also have done an amazing job limiting turnovers, as they have the 2nd fewest in the league. The weakness for this team has been on defense as they are 24th in defensive rating.
The Hawks sit at 11-14 against the spread, but have been far better at home with a 7-5 ATS record. The Nets have the 2nd worst ATS record in the league at 9-15-1. The Nets suffer from having to cover larger spreads as they are one of the most public bet teams in the league. However this game offers a tremendous opportunity as the Nets just need a victory to cover here. Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge will both be well-rested after sitting last game. Brooklyn has too much firepower for a Hawks team that is dealing with a slew of injuries. Brooklyn is in better form and plays superior defense.
If you have read my prior articles, you know I rather leave a minimal amount of points on the table in favor of lighter juice. The Nets are only getting a point, so we will confidently favor a +100 money line as our first official play. James Harden has efficiently stacked rebounds and assists on a regular basis. Now that Durant and Aldridge are back I think Harden will play more of a facilitator as opposed to a scorer. The Hawks have no answer for Durant as he scored 32 points last time he faced them. Hardens rebounds + assists line is set at 18.5. We will take a Harden over in that category for our official player prop as he’s in that range on a consistent basis.

Atlanta Hawks vs Brooklyn Nets from The GoldSheet
Atlanta had played Brooklyn very tough until the Nets took a 117-108 win and cover decision back on Nov. 3. The Hawks were 2-2 SU and covered the last 4 meetings with the Nets prior to that result. Brooklyn was on fire from beyond the arc in first meeting this season, making 22 of 48 (46%) from downtown, and that was enough to overcome a 52-42 Hawk edge on the boards as well as Atlanta having an edge in free throws. Atlanta not exactly “Hot’lanta” right now (just 2-3 SU and against the points last 5 following a 7-game win streak the Hawks enjoyed in the 2nd half of November). Note Atlanta has had an unusual break in the schedule, as the Hawks have had 3 off days since playing Charlotte and Minnesota back-to-back Sunday and Monday. Pointspread not a factor here, and Nets have had a day off and have bounced back to win the next game after each of their setbacks so far this season. Play Brooklyn.
