Atlanta Hawks vs Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Analysis

The Cleveland Cavaliers travel to Atlanta for an Eastern Conference showdown with the Hawks on Friday night. The Hawks lost 122-101 at home against the New York Knicks in their final game prior to the All-Star break.

The Cavaliers fell short 115-109 last night in a home game against the Denver Nuggets. This will be the second of three games in a regular season series that Cleveland leads 1-0 after winning 114-102 at home on November 21st. Tup-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST/4:30 PST from State Farm Arena.

Hawks Eye New Head Coach

The Atlanta Hawks start the second half of the season with a 29-30 record on the season. They sit at 8th in the Eastern Conference, three games behind the 7th seeded Heat and only a half game from missing the play-in tournament altogether.

After a sluggish start, head coach Nate McMillan got the ax prior to the All-Star break. Assistant coach Joe Prunty will take over on an interim basis while leading candidates appear to be former Jazz coach Quin Snyder and former Celtics coach Ime Udoka.

Trae Young had a brutal 4-14 shooting performance as he scored 19 points against the Knicks in their final game prior to the break. De’Andre Hunter led the team in scoring with 20 points while Clint Capela chipped in with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

The Hawks are the 8th ranked scoring team in the league with 116.4 points a game on 47.8% from the floor. Defense has been a different story as they sit at 21st in both defensive rating and scoring with 116.7 points allowed per game.

John Collins is the only player listed on the current injury report as he has been ruled out after landing in concussion protocol.

Cavalier Back-to-Back

The Cleveland Cavaliers slipped to 38-24 on the season after losing to Denver last night. Long distance shooting proved to be the difference as the Nuggets shot 17-36 47.2% from beyond the arc while Cleveland went only 6-26 23.1%.

Evan Mobley led all scorers with 31 points along with 9 rebounds. Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland each scored 22 points while Jarrett Allen recorded a 14 point, 13 rebound double-double.

The Cavaliers currently occupy the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference, 6 games behind the first place Celtics. Cleveland only scores 111.7 points a game on 48.8% from the field which ranks them 26th in the league.

Defense is their calling card as they rank #1 in both defensive rating and scoring with only 106.3 points allowed per game.

Ricky Rubio is listed as probable with a knee injury and is the only player listed on the injury report. However, Cleveland is on s back-to-back so that could quickly change.

Atlanta Hawks vs Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction

This game is a virtual pick’em with the Atlanta Hawks favored by only 1 point with a total set at 227.5. The Cavaliers are firmly entrenteched in the playoff picture while the Hawks hope a coaching change can sway their season.

Atlanta has been a bad bet this season with a horrible 26-33 ATS record. However they are far better than their record indicates and the McMillan firing will create a sense of urgency.

Cleveland is on a back-to-back on the road after losing at home against Denver last night. Only Rubio is listed on the injury report, but Donovan Mitchell or Darius Garland could easily sit out the back-to-back.

The time is now for the Hawks and they need every possible victory. Let’s back the home team with a big motivational factor on a short line.

Prediction: Atlanta Hawks -1 -110 Draftkings
