Atlanta Hawks vs Golden State Warriors Analysis
The Golden State Warriors continue their East Coast road trip in Atlanta against the Hawks in the first of two games featured on NBA TV. The Hawks now sit a game below .500 with a 36-37 record after losing 122-101 in Detroit against the Pistons. The short-handed Warriors improved to 48-25 after beating the full strength Heat 118-104 in Miami on Wednesday night.
Golden State won their first head-to-head meeting with the Hawks 127-113 at home way back in November.
Hawks Fall Short After Emotional Victory Over Knicks
The Atlanta Hawks expelled a boatload of energy beating the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night and it showed as they lost to Detroit Pistons the very next night. Trae Young led the way with 21 points and 9 assists in the loss after putting up 45 points and 8 assists the prior night. The Oklahoma product has an average of 28.1 points and 9.5 assists on the season.
The Hawks currently sit at 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings with a comfortable five-game lead over the 11th-place Knicks for the final play-in spot. The only player listed on Atlanta’s injury report is John Collins who is out with a sprained finger.
The Hawks score and allow just over 112 points per game, which ranks them 8th in offense and 22nd in defense.
Warriors’ Backups Crush Heat Starters
The Golden State Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Miami Heat, despite playing without Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. The loss was so frustrating it kicked off a dust up between Jimmy Butler and Udonis Haslem as well as Head Coach Erik Spoelstra.
Golden State will compete without Steph Curry for the next few weeks after he strained a ligament in his foot, however he is the only player listed on the Warrior injury report.
The Warriors boast the league’s fourth-rated defense with only 105 points allowed a game, while ranking 13th with 111 points per game.
Atlanta Hawks vs Golden State Warriors Prediction
The Atlanta Hawks are 2.5-point home favorites with the total set at 221 points. Its really tough to back either team in this scenario. The Warriors are struggling offensively without Curry, only scoring 105 points a game and shooting 45% in the three games since his injury. Meanwhile the Hawks are 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 games.
Golden State has been careless with the ball, averaging 15 turnovers a game in three games without Curry. Meanwhile the Hawks have done a better job protecting the ball at home and that could be the difference.
It feels like the Hawks are more desperate for the win, while the Warriors might be content with beating Miami in their last game. We will roll with a small play on the Hawks, but this isn’t my most confident play.
Official Play: Atlanta Hawks -2.5 (Small play)
