Atlanta Hawks vs Philadelphia 76ers Predictions

  • Atlanta Hawks -1.5 vs Philadelphia 76ers
  • Total: 216.5 Points
  • The 76ers are 3-8-1 against the spread in their last 12 games
  • The Hawks are 7-2 against the spread as a favorite.
  • The Hawks have covered the spread in ten of the last 13 meetings between these teams in Atlanta.

Philadelphia 76ers (11-11, 11th in NBA – East) are scheduled to be at Phillips Arena on Friday night for a matchup against the Eastern Conference Atlanta Hawks (12-10, 7th in NBA – East) with a first tipoff slated for 7:30pm ET.

Friday night’s game is Rematch Part II of the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals. There won’t be a significant difference in the rosters for both of these East teams that met in the Association postseason this past summer, save Philadelphia point guard Ben Simmons not taking part.

Trae Young leads the Hawks in scoring and ranks fourth in the league averaging 26.3 points per game. Former Kansas Jayhawk Joel Embiid tops the Sixers stat-sheet in points per game with 22.

The Sixers shot just 37.1 percent from the field and 25.8 percent from distance in Monday night’s 88-87 loss to the Boston Celtics in the Garden. Embiid had 18 rebounds and 13 points to lead Philadelphia in both game categories. Seth Curry scored 17 points, and Shake Milton came off the bench to add 16. Philadelphia scored just 28 points in the paint compared to Boston’s 34.

“Some guys come back quickly and play pretty well; a lot of guys have played the one great game when they’re back and then go into a little fog,” Sixers head coach Doc Rivers told the media about his center, Embiid. “You can tell he’s struggling just getting going. So we gotta keep playing him and let him play through it.”

Atlanta All-Star point guard Trae Young registered 33 points to lead the Hawks in the 114-111 road victory. Atlanta jumped out to an early lead over the Pacers by making 25 of 42 (59.5%) in the first half, including 10 of 15 shots from beyond the arc.

Philadelphia 76ers

In his first year with the team, center Andre Drummond averaged 6.6 points and 10.7 rebounds in work backing up Joel Embiid. Embiid hasn’t been his dominating self since returning from his time on the injury list due to COVID-19 protocols. The Sixers Big scored 42 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in an overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In Philadelphia’s last two games, Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics, Embiid has connected on just 7-of-33 from the field. Embiid was active when on the court. Evidence of this came in the fashion of 18 rebounds against the Celtics. His offensive continuity and cohesiveness with his teammates are everything but a work of art.

The 76ers have struggled recently on the offensive side of the ball. They’re scoring just 105.6 points per 100 possessions over the last two weeks, according to Cleaning the Glass metrics.

Atlanta Hawks

John Collins has come out of an early-season funk and is averaging 16.5 points and 7.7 rebounds over the last ten games for Atlanta. Young has scored at least 30 points in five straight games.

Hawks head coach Nate McMillan missed Wednesday’s win as part of the league’s health and safety protocols. There has not been an official announcement if the coach will be back to his usual duties in tonight’s game versus the Sixers.

The Atlanta Hawks will be without De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic for tonight’s game, and Cam Reddish (wrist) is questionable. If Reddish cannot play the duo of Kevin Huerter and Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot will see more minutes.

Atlanta Hawks vs Philadelphia 76ers Injury Report

Philadelphia 76ers
Ben Simmons (back) is out.
Grant Riller (shoulder) is out.

Atlanta Hawks
De’Andre Hunter (wrist) has been ruled out.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (ankle) will not be available for tonight’s game.
Cam Reddish (wrist) is questionable.

The Sixers need a win, and the near pick ’em handicap offers value to the visitors. Atlanta’s success in last summer’s postseason was their scrappy troupe that was arguably the best defense in the league. So the lean in tonight’s early Eastern Conference contest is on the Sixers plus the points.

Atlanta Hawks vs Philadelphia 76ers Analysis from The GoldSheet

Philadelphia won the first meeting in this series on Oct. 30, swamping Atlanta 122-94, as the Sixer defense smothered Hawk G Trae Young (just 13 pts.; 5-16 FGs). Atlanta shot just 38% that night while the Sixers shot 54% and recorded 11 steals to contribute to and take advantage of 19 Hawk turnovers. That was just the Sixers second win and cover in the past five against Atlanta, and the Hawks are 10-3 against the number at home in the series. Expect a much better showing from Young this time around, and Philly ranks 28th in offensive efficiency in losing three of its last four games.
