Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers Analysis

Philly had their seven game win streak snapped on Wednesday as Charlotte was able to take them down, but it’s still been a great run for them as they are 8-2 their last 10. Boston is riding a little bit of momentum after winning three straight, although beating a Knicks team with no Fournier or Kemba, and then the hapless Pacers twice isn’t an incredible feat to brag about. The 76ers are a -3.5 favorite and the total is 210 and we’ll see if those numbers provide us enough value to find a wager.

Boston Breathing Life Into The Season

The Celtics have struggled this year, but sometimes the smallest things can get a team to start clicking and maybe Boston gets going after winning three straight. There are no real trends for against the spread and/or totals for the Celtics so I’ll go back to when these two teams played earlier this year. Brown had a big game with 30 points, and Embiid went off for 41 points in a 108-103 win for Philly.

The rosters are similar, but Boston won’t have Smart, but will have Horford and Williams although I’m not sure they will offer too much more defense to Embiid than the previous game. Tatum and Brown have lead this team in scoring in 19 out of 20 games so expect them to play well…but this is a big step up in competition as they haven’t played a playoff team in 2022.

Philadelphia Piling Up Wins

The 76ers have been playing great since December 20th as they’re healthy and rolling, and Embiid has been an animal scoring 31 or more points in eight straight games. The 76ers have been a solid under team this season as they are 24-15 to the under this season and 12-5 at home. Their defense has been solid all season as they rank near the top defending guards, forwards and centers so Boston will have to work to get points. Philly has held opponents to 103 or more in seven out of ten games, and I see more struggles for a Philly opponent tonight.

Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers Prediction

Give me the under in this matchup, but I can’t tell you it’s a big play for me. The books have these numbers pretty well dialed in, but Boston has had some bad performances on offense scoring 101, 99, 105, and 97 in four out of their last five. Outside of Embiid, nobody is stepping up on offense consistently, so I think there’s value on the under.

Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers Preview from GoldSheet

Philadelphia just had its seven game winning streak snapped in Charlotte, but note the Sixers are at the top of the table in net differential in the last eight games and have dominated Boston lately, winning four of last five and covering six straight vs. the Celtics. Philadelphia received a boost with the return from quarantine of PG Tyrese Maxey (shook off the rust shooting 4-13 Wednesday vs. the Hornets with 10 pts, 3 rebs., 3 assists). All the other principals are present for the Sixers save backup G Shake Milton who has a back injury. Boston healthy as well, coming through its own bout with Covid and injuries, with only G Marcus Smart listed due to a thigh problem that kept him sidelined Wednesday vs. the Pacers. The Celtics have won 3 straight, but thus far this season they haven’t won 4 in a row. Series history and some matchup edges (think Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris on the boards) makes Sixers attractive.
