Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Predictions

  • Boston Celtics +1.5 vs Brooklyn Nets
  • Total: 215 Points
  • The Nets have won six of their last seven road games.
  • Jayson Tatum has gone for 30+ points in four-straight games.

Two teams coming in on three game winning streaks, and both winning streaks are against bad teams. Boston beating a struggling Lakers team, OKC and Houston. Brooklyn beating Cleveland twice and Orlando. Brooklyn is, of course, getting production out of Harden and Durant, but the contributions from Lamarcus Aldridge and Patty Mills have been quite unexpected, and in the short term might continue, but long term…I have questions.

Brooklyn has a pretty clear pattern of beating the bad teams and losing to the best teams on the schedule. They’ve lost to Golden State, Chicago, Miami, Charlotte and Milwaukee, so the defending Champions, the best team in the league and the 2, 3, and 5 seeds in the East. It’s understanding to lose to those teams, but at some point Brooklyn has to assert themselves against the good teams, and this would be a nice win for them.

For Boston, the Brown injury came at a good time as their schedule is light on elite teams right now, but this is a big one for them, and while Durant is a matchup nightmare for every team, he could be even tougher for Boston who are the 8th worst team guarding Power Forwards. Brooklyn is top half in the league at defending forwards, so Tatum could see some tough defense tonight.

There is nothing that stands out for scoring trends or ATS streaks with these two teams, but there are several factors that make me lean towards the under in this game. I don’t believe that Mills and Aldridge will continue their hot shooting, and Blake Griffin is a disaster right now.

Boston isn’t great at defending point guards so expect Harden to do well, but with Boston’s slow pace of play the possessions should be limited and if Aldridge or Mills has an off night Brooklyn becomes much easier to defend. Boston has put up good point total totals against week opponents, but they have had some low scoring nights at times. They scored 99 against Atlanta, 98 and 91 against Cleveland and even 108 against a terrible Houston team isn’t impressive.

I can see this game coming down to a Tatum v Durant game, and Boston will have the advantage inside with Horford and Williams who should help clog up the lane on the drives by Brooklyn. The total of 215 feels a bit high for a game I expect to be close and with both teams giving max effort on defense as both teams will be rested, and then off the next day for Thanksgiving.

Official Play: UNDER 215
Player Prop: Horford over 8.5 rebounds

Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets Analysis from The GoldSheet

Boston has won three-straight and eight of its last 11, beating Milwaukee and winning at Miami, but much of the rest of the victories came against somewhat suspect competition (OKC, Houston, Orlando). Not surprisingly the Celtics rank third in net ratio behind (also not a surprise) Golden State and Miami in that 11-game span. Celtics could hold out both G Jaylen Brown and Josh Richardson from this game, with Brown (25 ppg, 5.8 rpg) just recently returning from an injury and Richardson suffering from a non-Covid illness.

Brooklyn has overcome its “slow” start (2-3 SU & vs. the number) and won 11 of its last 13 games Now, granted they haven’t performed well against the spread in the 11-2 run, but they are 6-1 straight-up on the road in that run and this gamed opened at Nets a very slight favorite. James Harden has adjusted to the new rules, and is taking 8.5 trips to the line per game and scoring 23 ppg in the last ten for Brooklyn, while Kevin Durant is, well, Kevin Durant (29 ppg, 53%, 46% on treys).
