Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat Analysis
The Miami Heat travel to Boston for an Eastern Conference clash amongst two of the conferences elite on ESPN. The Celtics record dropped to 47-29 after losing 115-112 in Toronto to the Raptors.
The Heat record is near identical at 48-28 after a 123-100 blowout against the Sacramento Kings. These teams are separated by only one game at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Boston is looking for a three game regular season series sweep after beating the Heat 122-92 at home and 95-78 in Miami.
Celtics Rest Starters and Still Compete Against Toronto
The Boston Celtics got horrible news about Robert Williams III as his injured knee will require surgery, he will miss the next 4-6 weeks.
Williams missed their last game against Toronto along with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Al Horford. Everyone outside of Williams should return tonight as last game was more of a load management situation.
The Celtics still came close to a victory against the Raptors as Marcus Smart led Boston with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Daniel Theis actually also managed a 13 point 10 rebound double double.
The Celtics own the leagues #1 rated defense on the season and over the course of their last 10 games. Offensively they middle of the pack in scoring, but have stepped up recently, ranking 6th in scoring during their last 10 games.
The Celts have clicked on all cylinders over the last few months, hopefully the Williams injury doesn’t derail them.
Heat Finally Stop the Bleeding
The Miami Heat desperately needed their last victory over the Sacramento Kings after losing their prior four games. Jimmy Butler led the team in both points with 27 and assists with 7.
Before their last game Miami had lost four straight, three being against playoff teams in the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers.
Bam Adebayo also put up a 22 point 15 rebound double double. Duncan Robinson, Caleb Martin and Gabe Vincent are all questionable for tonight’s contest.
The Heat are in the middle of a log jam atop the Eastern Conference standings alongside the Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers.
The Heat defense has remained consistent, but their scoring has dropped off. They rank 19th in scoring on the season, but 27th over their last 10 games.
Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat Prediction
The Boston Celtics are favored by 5.5 points and the over/under is set at 213.5. This is a big game for both teams as they jockey for playoff position.
The Celtics have had Miami’s number, beating them twice and holding them to 92 and 78 points. But you have to wonder how much the Williams injury takes away from their defense. Both teams have been involved in high scoring games recently.
The last five Boston Celtic games have averaged 235.6 points and the last five Heat games have averaged 216.6. These are two defensive teams but it won’t take much to get up and over 213.5 points. I’m taking a shot with the over here.
Prediction: Over 213.5
