Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers Predictions

  • Boston Celtics -2 vs Philadelphia 76ers
  • Total: 210.5 Points
  • Philadelphia won all three meetings last season, and the Sixers have covered four-straight in the series.

The Celtics and 76ers face off on Wednesday and both teams are struggling to break out of mediocrity right now. The 76ers have been hit hard this season by COVID, and even though Embiid is back in the lineup you have to wonder about the effects COVID had on him. He said he wasn’t sure if he was going to make it at some points. He had 42-14 against Minnesota and then had 16 points the next game against a terrible Orlando team, and if this is the inconsistency that Philly is going to get from him all season it’s going to be a tough season.

The Celtics are getting Jaylen Brown back, but this offense is bad right now. They are bottom 10 in pace and offensive rating and they’ve had their moments with high point totals, but they are few and far between and they’re against bad teams. They scored 130, 111, and 108 against the Lakers, Thunder and Rockets, and then turned around and had 104, 88 and 109 against Brooklyn, San Antonio and Toronto.

Nothing really stands out from an ATS or Totals on the season for these two teams, but even if there was a trend I wouldn’t pay much attention to it. You really have to be careful when looking at stats with these two teams as the 76ers spend a chunk of their season with a lot of young bench players playing big minutes due to COVID taking out starters, and with the Celtics Jaylen Brown has been out for a while and is back and Boston has been clunky. I can’t lay -2.5 with Boston as they are below .500 at home ATS, but yet I can’t back Philly as I don’t know what I’m going to get with Embiid.

My play is going to be the under. I’ve gone over the uncertainties with these teams and Boston is the third best team in the league defending Centers so they can make life difficult with Embiid, and they’re also third against forwards. Philadelphia is top half in the league in defending all positions and with Boston’s slow pace of play and Philly scoring 4 points less a game on the road than at home, this could be an ugly dogfight with not a lot of offensive explosions. Take the under in this one.

OFFICIAL PLAY: UNDER 210.5

Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers Analysis from The GoldSheet

Philly leader C Joel Embiid appeared ready to roll in scoring 29 ppg, 13.5 rpg 4 apg and 2 bpg in his first two games back from going through Covid protocols, a major relief for HC Doc Rivers. The Celtics will be a bit healthier in this one, as HC Ime Udoka said both C Robert Williams (ill, non-Covid) and G Dennis Schroeder (ankle) should be good-to-go giving Boston a full roster available. The same can be said for Philly, however, as they’ve gotten passed their fairly major battle with injuries and Covid which cost them the services not only of Embiid, but PG Seth Curry (foot and back), F Danny Green (hamstring), and F Tobias Harris (Covid, knee and hip) at various points in the tumble from their fast start. Through it all, second-year PG Tyrese Maxey has developed into a reliable option, heating up to 22 ppg, 5.4 apg, 47% FGs and 39% treys in the last ten games. Who needs Ben Simmons?
