Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers Betting Analysis
The Boston Celtics host the Philadelphia 76ers for Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series on Wednesday night. Despite missing MVP candidate Joel Embiid, the Sixers pulled off 119-115 Game 1 upset.
James Harden led the way with 45 points as Philadelphia stole homecourt advantage. Tip-off for Game 2 is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST/5:00 PST from TD Garden in Boston.
No Embiid No Problem
The Philadelphia 76ers entered this series with low expectations based on the absence of Joel Embiid due to a knee injury.
James Harden tied a career playoff high with 45 points including a three-pointer with under 10 seconds to go to give Philadelphia the lead for good. Tyrese Maxey added 26 points while Paul Reed recorded a double-double while filling in for Embiid with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
The 76ers are now 5-0 in the playoffs after sweeping Brooklyn and winning Game 1. However, Philadelphia is averaging only 106.8 points per game which ranks 12th in the post-season.
The 76ers ranked 9th in defensive efficiency during the regular season while playing at 27th fastest pace.
They were great on the road with a 25-16 record during the regular season and they are now 3-0 in the post-season. Keep an eye on Embiid’s status as Game 2 approaches but Vegas is counting on him being out based on the opening line.
Celtics Stunned In Game One
The Boston Celtics lost their second straight game at home while giving up homecourt advantage in the process against Philadelphia in Game 1.
Jayson Tatum led the team in scoring and rebounding with 39 points and 11 boards. Jaylen Brown added 23 points and 6 rebounds while Malcolm Brogdon scored 20 points off the bench.
The Celtics need to tighten up their defense on the perimeter after allowing the Sixers to hit 17 three-pointers in the game as opposed to just 10 by Boston.
During the regular season Boston ranked 2nd in offensive efficiency and 3rd in defensive efficiency while playing at the 17th fastest tempo in the league.
They finished the regular season 32-9 at home but are only 2-2 in the playoffs. Marcus Smart is questionable for Wednesday’s game due to a chest contusion he suffered in the second half of Game 1.
Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers Prediction
The Boston Celtics enter this contest as 10 point home favorites with a total set at 216.5. The first game flew past the total set at 215 as these teams combined for 236 points.
Boston has hit the over in five straight playoffs games as they both score and allow plenty of points on the perimeter. The removal of Joel Embiid actually speeds up the Sixers offense as Harden and Maxey can fly up and down the court while no waiting for Embiid to post up.
The Celtics also have more room to operate in the paint without Embiid lurking. The Celtics team total is set at 113.5 and they have eclipsed that in six straight playoff games.
They fell just short in Game 1 against the Atlanta Hawks with 112 points. Boston will laser focused as they simply cannot go down 2-0 at home.
Based on the 10 point spread, I’m not expecting Embiid to play, which will open things up for Boston to clear their team total once again.
