Brooklyn Nets vs Boston Celtics Betting Analysis
The Boston Celtics take a trip to the Big Apple for an Eastern Conference clash with the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night. The Nets hung on for a 102-101 victory in Miami on Sunday evening. The Celtics won at home 125-114 last night against the New Orleans Pelicans.
This is the second of four regular season meetings, Boston prevailed in Brooklyn 103-92 on December 4th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST/4:30 PST as the first game of a TNT Thursday night doubleheader.
Nets Lose Durant
The Brooklyn Nets improved to 27-13 on the season after holding off Miami 102-101 on Sunday. However Kevin Durant left the game as he suffered a MCL sprain of his right knee and is expected to miss approximately a month.
Brooklyn currently sits 1.5 games behind the Celtics in the Atlantic Division. Kyrie Irving was the games leading scorer with 29 points along with 6 assists.
Nic Claxton recorded a 13 point, 11 rebound double-double while Durant scored 17 before the injury. The Nets rank slightly above average in scoring with 114.6 points on a league high 51.2% from the field.
They have ratcheted up their defense as they sit at 9th in defensive rating and 5th in defensive scoring with 110.6 points allowed per game. Outside of Durant, Nic Claxton is the only player listed on the injury report as he is probable with a left shoulder issue.
Celtics First to 30 Wins
The Boston Celtics became the first NBA team to reach 30 wins at 30-12 in a victory over New Orleans last night.
The Celtics had a tremendous rebounding advantage at 50-33. Jaylen Brown scored a game and season high 41 points on an impressive 15-21 from the field to go along with 12 rebounds.
Jayson Tatum recorded a double-double of his own with 31 points and 10 rebounds while Malcolm Brogdon added 20 points off the bench. The Celts have been outstanding on the second game of back-to-backs with a 6-0 record and +12.5 scoring differential.
Boston currently ranks 2nd in scoring with 118.6 points per game as they have been #1 for the majority of the season.
The Celtics sit at 7th in defensive rating and 13th in defensive scoring with 112.6 points allowed per game. Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III are both listed as questionable but keep your eyes open as this is a back-to-back game on the road.
Brooklyn Nets vs Boston Celtics Prediction
The Boston Celtics enter this contest as 3 point road favorites with a total of 228. It’s very unfortunate that Kevin Durant won’t be available for this contest, but this is still a battle between two of the Eastern Conferences top teams.
The Nets have been the hottest team in the NBA with wins in 18 of their last 20 games. I would love to go back to the Tatum/Brown 25+ points each same game parlay that we cashed on yesterday, but due to the uncertainty surrounding the Celtics on a back-to-back there aren’t any Celtics player props available.
However, I believe Tatum and Brown will be active as Marcus Smart continues to miss time. As mentioned earlier, the Celts are 6-0 on the back half of consecutive games and they are also 13-7 straight up on the road this season.
There is also a history between these teams as Kyrie Irving left the Celtics on bad terms a few years back. Without Durant on the floor, I’m backing the Celtics in this one.
