Brooklyn Nets vs Boston Celtics Analysis
The Nets were crushed 117-103 at home against the Washington Wizards in their previous contest last Thursday, while the Celtics blew a chance to extend a nine game win streak in a 112-111 home loss against the inferior Detroit Pistons last Wednesday night.
The road team has prevailed in both head-to-head meetings with the Nets winning 123-104 on November 24th and the Celtics 126-91 on February 8th. They will meet for a fourth and final regular season showdown on a Sunday afternoon in March.
Nets Anxiously Await Durant’s Return
After losing 12 of their last 14 games the Brooklyn Nets inch closer and closer to .500 at 31-28 on the season. Brooklyn currently sits 2.5 games behind the Celtics for the final guaranteed playoff spot and 3.5 ahead of the Washington Wizards to remain in the field.
Patty Mills led the team with 22 points in their latest loss against the Wiz. Kevin Durant leads the team with 29.3 points a game, to go along with 7.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. Durant’s return from injury could solve a lot of issues but he remains out with a knee injury until sometime in March.
Kyrie Irving is still unavailable in home games, Joe Harris remains without a timetable for return and Ben Simmons isn’t expected to play until March due to conditioning. Ironically the Nets score and allow 110.8 points a game, ranking them 11th in scoring and 19th in scoring defense.
Celtics In Pursuit of New Win Streak
The Boston Celtics pushed their record to 34-26 on the season after winning nine of their last ten games before the All-Star break. They fell a point short of a ten game streak, losing their last game before the break 112-111 to the Detroit Pistons. The Celts led by eight with 4:25 to play and got outscored 14-5 the rest of the way to wind up with a loss. Jaylen Brown paced Boston with 31 points and six assists in the loss.
No surprise but Jayson Tatum and Brown lead the team in scoring with 25.7 and 23.7 points a game respectively. I thought Marcus Smart would miss significant time after watching him step on Joel Embiid’s foot and sprain his ankle. However, it looks like he and Robert Williams III should be good to go as the team sports a clean injury report.
The Celts play stellar defense as they rank 3rd with only 103.5 points allowed per game. They rank 18th in scoring with just over 108 points scored per contest.
Brooklyn Nets vs Boston Celtics Prediction
The Boston Celtics are 9-point road favorites with a total of 214.5. It’s hard to tell how teams will play as they shake off a weeks worth of rust. However, the Celtics are healthy, while the Nets are again without Durant and Irving.
The Nets are the worst team against the spread in the entire league with a 22-36-1 record. It gets even worse at home where Irving can’t play, they are a pathetic 6-22-1 ATS. Boston is 10-4 ATS as a road favorite so far this season. Something clicked before the break for the Celtics, they should play with plenty of confidence against a makeshift Nets roster.
Official Play: Boston Celtics -9
