Brooklyn Nets vs Dallas Mavericks Analysis
The Brooklyn Nets host the Dallas Mavericks at the Barclay’s Center Wednesday night int the first game of ESPN’s Wednesday night doubleheader.
The Mavs improved to 42-26 after winning a thriller in Boston over the Celtics on Sunday afternoon. The Nets boat raced the Magic 150-108 in Orlando just last night, upping their record to 36-33.
Brooklyn won the first head-to-head matchup between these two interconference rivals 102-99 in Dallas early in December.
Irving & Durant Continue to One-up Each Other
The Brooklyn Nets have now won four straight games as Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant play their version of hold my beer. Irving scored 50 points last Tuesday night in Charlotte an Durant responded with 53 points on Sunday against the New York Knicks.
Only for Irving to one-up both efforts with a monster 60 point game last night en route to torching the Orlando Magic.
The 60 points were both a career and franchise high. Tonight the Nets play at home, so Irving will not be allowed to suit up due to current restrictions at Barclay’s Center.
It’s doesn’t make sense but he will be allowed to patrol the sidelines and sit on the bench with his team. LaMarcus Aldridge will also be out with an injury while Seth Curry remains day-to-day.
The Nets rank 10th with 111.9 points a game and and 19th in scoring defense with 111.7 points allowed per game to their opponents.
Doncic & Mavericks Win Thriller Over Celtics
The Dallas Mavericks won for the seventh time in eight games while snapping a five game Celtic win streak on Sunday afternoon in Boston.
Luka Doncic returned from a first half hamstring injury to hit a tying three-pointer with 1:21 left on the clock. Spencer Dinwiddie hit a game winning three-pointer with 9 seconds left to seal the deal on a 95-92 victory over the Celtics.
Despite missing minutes with an injury Doncic led the team with 26 points and 8 assists. The Mavs currently sit at 4th place in the Western Conference and would host a first round playoff series if the season ended today.
The only new player of note on the injury report is Reggie Bullock who remains out with personal issues. The Mavs rely heavily on their defense as they rank #1 with only 103 points allowed per game to their rivals. However they only 106.6 points a game which ranks 26th in the league.
Brooklyn Nets vs Dallas Mavericks Prediction
The Dallas Mavericks enter this game as 3 point road favorites with a total set at 221.5.
Both teams come into this contest in amazing current form.
The Nets are playing the second game of a back-to-back but need every win they can get with the playoffs on the line.
Doncic looked noticeably slower and seemed hobbled when he returned from injury. The Nets have seemed to turn the corner and while the Mavs have a superior defense, the Nets have the ability to outscore them, even without Kyrie Irving.
I’m expecting a Nets win so let’s sprinkle the +130 money line with our main play on Nets +3.
Prediction: Brooklyn Nets +3, with a sprinkle (maybe 20-25% of your normal bet) on the +130 money line.
