Brooklyn Nets vs Los Angeles Lakers Betting Analysis
The Los Angeles Lakers visit the Big Apple for an interconference clash with the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night from the Barclays Center.
The Nets snapped a two game losing streak with a 122-115 loss at home against the New York Knicks on Saturday. The Lakers are coming off a heartbreaking 125-121 overtime loss on the road against the Boston Celtics.
This is the second and final meeting between these two teams, Los Angeles prevailed 116-103 at home on November 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST/4:30 PST on NBATV.
Lakers Lose a Heartbreaker
The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a brutal loss in Boston on Saturday, dropping their record to 23-27 on the season. It appeared that Lebron James was fouled on the final play of regulation but the call was missed on the floor and Boston took advantage in overtime.
The Celtics had a tremendous advantage at the free-throw line, where they went 34-39 for 87.2% compared to the Lakers going only 15-20 for 75%. Lebron James led all scorers with 41 points along with 9 rebounds and 8 assists.
Anthony Davis recorded a 16 point, 10 rebound double-double off the bench while Russell Westbrook had 12 points and 7 assists. Los Angeles currently occupies the 13th spot in the Western Conference, two games out of the play-in tournament.
Offense is the Lakers calling card as they rank 5th in scoring with 117.1 points a game on 48.2% from the field. Defense has been a completely different story as they sit at 20th in defensive rating and 27th in defensive scoring with 118.1 points allowed per game.
Lebron James, Anthony Davis and Austin Reeves have all already been ruled out for this contest as this will be the front half of a back-to-back. Lonnie Walker IV is questionable with a knee injury.
Nets Snap Two Game Skid
The Brooklyn Nets improved to 30-19 on the season after snapping a two game losing streak with a victory over the New York Knicks on Saturday.
Brooklyn had a tremendous edge in three-point shooting as they went 22-40 for 55% from beyond the arc while New York went only 10-28 for 35.7%. Kyrie Irving led all scorers with 32 points along with 9 assists and 6 rebounds.
Nic Claxton recorded a 13 point, 12 rebound double-double while dishing out a career high 6 assists. The Nets sit at 4th place in the Eastern Conference, five games behind the first place Celtics and only 1/2 game ahead of the 5th placed Cavaliers.
Brooklyn is truly middle of the pack in scoring at 15th with 114.4 points per game on a league high 51% from the field. Their defense continues to improve as they now rank 11th in defensive rating and 6th in defensive scoring with only 111.7 points allowed per game.
Ben Simmons is listed as questionable for this contest with a knee injury while TJ Warren is doubtful with a lower leg injury. Kevin Durant is on track with his recovery plan and will be reevaluated in two weeks.
Brooklyn Nets vs Los Angeles Lakers Player Prop Prediction
The Brooklyn Nets are 8.5 point home favorites with a total set at 230. The Nets are trying to keep their heads above water until Durant returns while the Lakers continue to deal with injury maintenance on aging players.
Brooklyn is heavily favored as Lebron James and Anthony Davis have both already been ruled out for this one. Nic Claxton has been much more productive since the Durant injury and we cashed on his Points + Rebounds + Assists over 29.5 last game as he recorded 31 PRAs.
Claxton set a career high with six assists and shot a perfect 6-6 from the floor. His PRA total is 29.5 again tonight and he has eclipsed that mark in four straight games as well as 7 of his last 8 games.
He landed on 26 in the lone game he fell short. The Lakers allow the 2nd most assists (4.58/game) and 7th most rebounds (15.65/game) to opposing centers. Los Angeles also plays at the leagues 2nd fastest pace, behind only the Golden State Warriors.
Claxton recorded only 13 PRA against the Lakers on November 13th, but he only played 16 minutes as his role has completely changed now.
He has averaged 32.6 minutes per game in January and that could go up tonight as Ben Simmons is questionable again. Let’s back Claxtons over 29.5 PRAs at home in favorable matchup with the Lakers.
