Brooklyn Nets vs Toronto Raptors Analysis

The Toronto Raptors hit the road and travel south to the Barclays Center to face the Brooklyn Nets in a battle of Atlantic Division rivals. The Nets were boatraced 130-102 on Wednesday night against the New Orleans Pelicans.

While the Raptors came out on top 108-105 at home over the new look Cleveland Cavaliers. This will be the first of four games between these squads after splitting the season series a year ago. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST/4:30 PST.

Nets Need A Spark

The Brooklyn Nets came out flat on Wednesday evening and never were able to recover resulting in a 130-102 loss against the New Orleans Pelicans. Before they could look up the score was 20-4 halfway through the first quarter and they ended up being outscored by 18.

The Nets also lost the battle on the glass 61-39. It was Ben Simmons first action as a member of the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn will need him to form true “Big 3” with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving for them to be a serious contender in the loaded Eastern Conference.

Kevin Durant led the way in scoring department with 32 points as one of five players from the team to score double digits. Kyrie Irving chipped in with 15 points but he shot only 6 of 19 from the field. They will need to have short memories and get back to the drawing board to prepare for a talented Toronto team.

Raptors On The Road

The Toronto Raptors managed to come out on top of a back and forth affair 108-105 against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday evening. The Raptors led by as many as 11 in the first half only to trail by 8 at halftime.

In the end, it took a 32-21 4th quarter for the Raps to pull out the victory. Pascal Siakam paced Toronto with 23 points and 11 rebounds, he was one of six Raptors to score double digits. Gary Trent Jr added 19 points, Scottie Barnes chipped in with 15 and OG Anunoby had a well-rounded game with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Raptors need to get more from their bench who only scored 18 points in 60 minutes of play. The Raps reserves shot only 6 for 19 from the field in the contest. This team is known for their defense but Cleveland did shoot 49.4% from the field so improvement is necessary.

Brooklyn Nets vs Toronto Raptors Prediction

The Brooklyn Nets are favored by 2.5 points over the Toronto Raptors with a total set at 226.5. This should be a highly competitive game between two evenly matched teams, making for a tough call on a side or total.

I do lean towards Toronto but with Brooklyn coming off a loss and playing at home I will pivot to a player prop. Ben Simmons once again struggled to score, going only 2 for 3 for 4 points. He missed both of his free throws and played only 23 minutes while also fouling out.

Simmons is completely lost in the shuffle behind Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and even Patty Mills & Royce O’Neale. The Raptors play strong interior defense which will make it near impossible for Simmons to score in the paint. Simmons point total is set at 9.5 and I’m not sure I see a path for him to get there with limited minutes as a poor shooter.

Prediction: Ben Simmons Under 9.5 Points -125
