Bulls vs Pacers Analysis

The Bulls are coming off an overtime loss at Toronto last night, and have to make a quick turnaround to travel to Indiana who is in the middle of getting hit with a winter storm to take on the injury depleted Pacers.

The Pacers will be without six players tonight with two more listed as game time decisions, so they will be operating with a depleted roster.

The Bulls open up at a -2.5 favorite, but might not be with Zach Lavine who is dealing with back issues. The total is set at 231.5 so let’s see if there’s a play that makes sense for us to play in this one.

Bulls in Winter Wonderland

This is a brutal couple of days for Chicago. They lost in OT in Toronto and have to travel to Indianapolis who is being hit by a winter storm. As a resident of Indianapolis, I can tell you it’s very cold and travel is difficult as we got an ice storm which then got covered with snow.

A lot of places have shut down today, and it’s just a cold wintery day here. Not that players from Chicago can’t handle it, but coming off an overtime loss and now the reports that Lavine is dealing with bad back spasms and is trending towards not playing tonight…it’s just a tough spot.

Luckily for them, their opponent has roster issues as well. One trend that interests me tonight is that the Bulls have been an over team recently going 4-1 O/U their last five.

They’ve been scoring a lot of points, and giving up a lot of points and their defense will surely be suspect tonight, but so will the Pacers.

Pacers Need a Doctor

The injuries are piling up for Indiana, and last game made it even worse as Jackson got hurt in the first minute of the game and is out for tonight which means a questionable Bitadze is their best shot at having a center.

It sets up well for nice games for DeRozan and Vucevic if they have fresh legs because the Pacers defense is non-existent right now. They’ve given up 119 to Orlando, 116 to the Clippers and 110 to OKC without SGA in their last three games, and that was after they gave up 158 to Charlotte.

Pacers games are 8-2 to the over in their last 10, and the books have noticed as they’ve put up this huge number of 231.5. I follow this team closely, and I don’t even know some of these guys playing big minutes for Indiana.

Terry Taylor was last games star as he came off the bench to score 24 points when he had only played six games for the Pacers this season and had scored a TOTAL of 30 points in those games. Caris LeVert had a nice game and they are still getting contributions from Lance Stephenson, which blows my mind.

They’ve won two out of their last four games, but these high scoring games they’ve been involved in have my attention.

Bulls vs Pacers Prediction

Neither of these teams defenses are having success lately, and I don’t know why that would change tonight. The Pacers have nothing to offer inside for the bigs of Chicago, and the bulls have been involved in four straight games that went into the 140’s or higher. I’ll take this game over the total.

Prediction: Over 231.5

Bulls vs Pacers Preview from GoldSheet

Bulls must be a bit emotionally and physically drained after battling for 51 minutes against Toronto last night, taking the Raptors to OT at the Scotiabank Arena but being shut out in the final two minutes of OT to fall 127-120.

Chicago is still thin at guard and a bit banged up on the frontline at PF, and three of last night’s starters played 42 or more minutes (DeMar DeRozan played 45). However, the Bulls are 4-1 straight up last five against Indy after previously losing 10 straight to the Pacers, with Indiana winning the last three meetings at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Pacers coming off an embarrassing 119-118 loss to lowly Orlando, although the state of their roster (down 3 starters with PF Domantas Sabonis going on the Covid protocol list) it’s tough to make a case for them to win.

This series has seen the “under” collect in 14 of the last 17 in this series played in Indianapolis. The Pacers have gone “over” in 6 straight, but with Sabonis joining Malcolm Brogdon and possibly the other top 4 on the depth chart at PF and Center, who is going to score all those points…the OT-drained Bulls?
