Charlotte Hornets vs Atlanta Hawks Analysis
Both teams are coming off big wins and both teams have something to prove to each other.
On Wednesday night, the Hawks travel to Charlotte to take on the Hornets in the fourth and final game of their season series. The Hornets are 5-7 against all divisional foes while the Hawks are 8-5.
The Hawks have won two of the previous three matchups with the Hornets winning the second matchup between these two teams back in December.
In the season series, the Hawks have also covered the spread on two occasions. The line for the final matchup between these Eastern Conference foes is Charlotte -1.5 with a total of 237.5.
Not So Home Sweet Home For Hornets
The Hornets currently hold the final spot for the Eastern Conference play-in tournament and are only a half-game behind Atlanta for the 9 seed.
With a win, they would leapfrog their divisional foe in the standings. A win tonight would also be a three-game winning streak for the Hornets.
The Hornets have not been great at home this season – they are 16-17 in all contests at the Spectrum Center. This season, as a home favorite, the Hornets are 7-7 against the spread.
As a home favorite of 1-3.5 points, Charlotte is 3-1 against the number. Besides Gordan Hayward, the Hornets are not expected to be missing anyone else from their lineup.
Young Scorching For Hawks
A Hawks loss tonight would drop them a spot in the Eastern Conference standings and would put more pressure on this team.
The Hawks are underperforming this season, but they are hot right now and are winners of three straight games. Trae Young has been on a tear recently and is averaging 28.3 points per game over the Hawk’s last 10 games.
In order to maintain their spot in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament, the Hawks need to continue to win games, especially against Eastern Conference foes.
Charlotte Hornets vs Atlanta Hawks Prediction
Hornets and Hawks games always have lower scoring numbers than most of these teams’ games against other teams. The Hawks average 118 points per game when facing the Hornets, but the games have gone under in five of the last six matchups.
While this stat is interesting, I have no interest in the total. The Hawks are the better-coached team and have more talent overall than the Hornets. In a very important late-season matchup, I love the Hawks to cover the 1.5 and win outright.
The one Hornets win against the Hawks this season was a close game, but the two Hawks wins were by solid margins. I expect the Hawks to come through with a win tonight.
