Charlotte Hornets vs New Orleans Pelicans Analysis

Professional basketball games are back after a slower NBA week due to the NCAA tournament. We are entering the stretch run of NBA action before the playoffs begin.

The New Orleans Pelicans continue their road trip and take on the Charlotte Hornets Monday night at the Spectrum Center.

Both teams are coming off of wins and are playing great basketball at this point of the season. This is the second and final matchup between these two teams.

These two teams played 11 days ago in New Orleans and the Hornets won by 22 and covered the spread. Charlotte is set as a 6 point favorite in this game and the total is 233.5.

Hornets Stinging Competition With Offense

The Hornets have chosen a great time to get hot with the season winding down and they have won their last four games.

Charlotte is propelled by their high-flying offense that has averaged 121.7 points over their last 10 games. During this win streak, the Hornets have risen one spot in the Eastern Conference and currently have a 5.5 game cushion for entry into the play-in tournament. The Hornets are not great at home this season.

They have amassed an 18-17 record when playing in Charlotte. As a home favorite, the Hornets are 9-7 against the spread.

Pelicans Playing Average

The Pelicans have won back-to-back games and are looking to extend their winning streak to three games. Over their last 10 games, New Orleans is 5-5 and is averaging 119.8 points per game.

New Orleans is currently tied with the Lakers in the Western Conference standings and the Pelicans have a 2.5 game cushion over the Spurs for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament.

New Orleans is 14-15 against the spread this season as a road underdog.

Charlotte Hornets vs New Orleans Pelicans Prediction

The last time these two teams played there was an offensive explosion for the Hornets. Charlotte shot 60% from the field and made 22 three-pointers in the game. Both teams combined for 262 total points in a beat down by the Hornets.

For the second matchup between these two teams, I like the game to go over again. Yes, the Hornets shot a crazy percentage from the field that likely can’t be replicated, but both teams have high-scoring offenses and subpar defenses. I like over 233.5 total points for this contest.

Prediction: Over 233.5
