Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks Analysis
After another close, tough, and heartbreaking loss, RJ Barrett and the Knicks travel to Charlotte to take on Lamelo Ball and the Hornets.
This is the third matchup between these two teams this season and there is one more on the horizon. The Hornets took care of the Knicks in the previous two games. In both of the prior matchups, the Knicks were short favorites against the Hornets.
However, the Hornets won both matchups and now are set as seven-point home favorites against the Knicks. The total for this matchup is 226 points.
Hornets Looking to Stay Hot
Not only are the Hornets seven-point favorites over the Knicks tonight, but the Hornets also hold a seven-game lead on the Knickerbockers in the Eastern Conference standings. As it stands, the Hornets have a spot in the play-in tournament and the Knicks do not.
The Hornets have been playing great lately and are in the midst of a five-game win streak. Over their last 10 games, Charlotte is 7-3 and is averaging 119.7 points per game. The Hornets are 19-17 at home this season and are 9-8 against the spread as a home favorite.
New York May Be Looking Forward to Next Season
With just 10 games left in the regular season, it’s safe to say the disappointing Knicks will not be in the playoffs nor will they have a shot in the play-in tournament.
Just when the Knicks get some momentum and win a big game or two, they lose a big game or five. While the Knicks are not mathematically eliminated, it’s tough to see this team, in such a bad way, regrouping for a stretch run.
The Knicks are 5-5 in their last 10 games, but in order to close ground on the Hawks in the standings, the Knicks needed more.
Their loss to Atlanta last night must sting, but the fact of the matter is the Knicks continue to dig their own grave. RJ Barrett is improving nightly, but that’s about the only positive for the Knicks.
Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks Prediction
The first play I certainly like for this game is under 226 points. If the Knicks play with any pride, that starts with defense, and I expect the Knicks to wall Charlotte.
The Hornets do not play much defense themselves, but the Knicks are never mistaken for an elite offensive team. I recommend under 226 points.
I also am interested in the Knicks +7. While I can go on and on about how bad the Knicks are, this is when skill is put aside and effort shows. I think the Knicks lock in defensively and cover this spread.
I was almost inclined to take the Knicks moneyline, but knowing the Knicks this season, I do not see them winning. Laying seven points with Charlotte is too many though.
