Charlotte Hornets vs Sacramento Kings Predictions

  • Sacramento Kings -1 at Charlotte Hornets
  • Total: 231 Points
  • Each of Charlotte’s last seven games have gone over the total.

The Kings, winners of 3 straight take on th….THE KINGS WINNERS OF 3 STRAIGHT?!?!? You read that correctly, the Kings have beaten the Clippers twice and the Magic once for their only three game winning streak of the season. Their last game was something that looked like a game from the “And 1” league as they beat Orlando 142-130, and they’ll be facing another team that can get into big shootouts in the Charlotte Hornets. This game opened as a pick’em with the total at 228, but the Kings are now holding steady as a small road favorite with the total climbing over 230. Let’s dive in and see what the play is in this game.

Charlotte has been dealing with having players out with the COVID protocols, but they’ve played competitively without Lamelo Ball beating Atlanta by three and losing to Philly twice…once by 4 and once by 3 in overtime. It’s been a real team effort to play as well as they have as they’ve had a different leading scorer each of the last three nights, but one of the underlying stories with Charlotte is their crazy pace of play and complete lack of defense without Plumlee. Six of their last seven games have gone over 247 points…16 points higher than the total on this game. They give up the 2nd most points a game to shooting guards per game, the 3rd most points per game to power forwards, and the most points per game to centers.

The Kings have had a tumultuous season to this point as they’ve already had a coaching change as Alvin Gentry has taken over for Luke Walton, and in the last three games they’ve put up 124, 104 and 142, but let’s maybe not completely overreact as the two games before that they put up 92 and 101 against the Lakers and Grizzlies. Sacramento also has some defensive issues on certain positions as they give up the 2nd most points to point guards, and the 3rd most points to shooting guards.

We can expect the guards of Charlotte to have success and that could mean a lot of points as Oubre has played well, and Hayward can definitely find holes in that defense. Fox has really played well the last couple games have most of the other Kings players so I would expect them to have success on the offensive end as well. It’s hard to pick an outright winner as both teams are playing at a very similar level, so I’ll go ahead and look at the total. Both teams are on a days rest, and have been playing no defense and lots of offense. The total has climbed three points since it opened, and I certainly agree with the move.

Charlotte Hornets vs Sacramento Kings from The GoldSheet

Sacramento’s 140-110 victory at home against Charlotte on Nov. 5 was just the Kings’ 3rd victory over the Hornets in 7 years. Despite recent SU dip (1-5 SU L6), Charlotte has covered 4 straight and is 11-4 vs. the number last 15. The Hornets rank last in the NBA in defensive efficiency in the last 7 games, allowing 123 pts. per 100 possessions, interestingly they are 2nd in offensive efficiency in that period (also scoring 123 pp/100). Not surprisingly Charlotte games have gone over the total in all 7 of those, with the Hornet games totaling 229 points in regulation (discounting Laker triple OT). Kings have won and covered 3 straight and are 5-2 SU last 7 with victories over Portland, the Lakers, Memphis and the Clippers twice. Sacto also over 5-2 last 7, and note Charlotte still without starters LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier and Mason Plumlee, total set high.
