Chicago Bulls vs Detroit Pistons Analysis

The Detroit Pistons (9-30, 5th in Central) and the Chicago Bulls (26-11, 1st in Central) meet for the third time this season. The Bulls won the last meeting on Oct. 24, with DeMar DeRozan scoring 21 points in the victory. Tuesday’s visit from the Pistons is a previously scheduled matchup that was postponed due to Chicago’s large number of COVID-19 issues.

The Bulls will try to keep its eight-game home win streak alive. Detroit recorded a Monday night upset over the Utah Jazz giving the Pistons a two-game winning streak heading into this divisional matchup.

Circa Race and Sportsbook in downtown Las Vegas opened the Chicago Bulls as 14-point home chalk against Eastern Conference Central Division rival Detroit. The Pistons and the Bulls’ total game points was set at 220.5. The visiting Pistons are 19-20 against the spread overall this season and 9-11 against the number on the road. The Bulls against the spread record on the season is a profitable 22-15. Chicago is 12-6 ATS playing on their home court in the United Center.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons are 2-6 against the rest of the division. When it wins the turnover battle, Detroit is 3-16 and averages 14.4 turnovers per game. Across the same period, Detroit is 4-3 straight up with a -4.4 net rating which is substantially more productive than their -10.4 net rating on the season.

Pistons rookie Cade Cunningham is earning his first-year stripes and is beginning to attract the attention of opposing players and coaches. Cunningham is coming off a career-best 29 points during Monday’s 126-116 home win against the Utah Jazz.

Saddiq Bey added 29 points for Detroit. Last night, the Pistons were on target from distance, connecting on 19-of-37 shots from beyond the arc.

Detroit acting bench coach Rex Kalamian told the media in the post-game presser following the victory over Utah he was proud of the squads’ performance. “They did a phenomenal job at halftime of bringing more energy, spirit, and togetherness. … We were down by 22, and we just fought back.”

Kalamian led the Pistons as head coach Dwane Casey entered the NBA’s health and safety protocol earlier Monday. Cade Cunningham averages 15.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists for the Pistons. Saddiq Bey is averaging 20.7 points over the last ten games for Detroit.

Chicago Bulls

While the Bulls have an eight-game home win streak, Sunday’s 113-99 loss at Dallas snapped Chicago’s nine-game overall winning run; the veterans are not happy with the team defense the squad is currently executing.

“Our defense is not just consistent enough throughout games,” Chicago’s Nikola Vucevic said. “We have stretches where we’re really good and can make our runs. And then we have stretches where we’re not focused enough. Our rebounding needs to be a little better. Often, we do get stops, but we don’t get the rebounds, so they get second-chance opportunities. Those hurt always.”

Chicago averages 110.9 points and has outscored opponents by 3.3 points per game. The Bulls are 5-1 overall across the last two weeks of their schedule with a 1.2 net rating.

DeRozan is scoring 26.4 points per game with 5.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists for the Bulls. Zach LaVine is averaging 26.6 points and 3.9 assists over the last ten games for Chicago.

Chicago Bulls vs Detroit Pistons Prediction

The Pistons are playing the second-leg of a back-to-back. Following a victory over the Jazz after trailing by as many as 21-points Monday night at the Palace, the energy level that Detroit will need to earn a third-straight win isn’t an impossible task. Still, the WagerTalk Pick to Click in this Eastern Conference matchup falls to the home team tonight, the Chicago Bulls.

Chicago Bulls vs Detroit Pistons Preview from GoldSheet

Quite the dichotomy in this one as Chicago leads the East with a 26-11 mark, while Detroit has the 2nd-fewest wins in the NBA with its 9-30 mark. The Pistons, however, apparently turned the page on a miserable 2021 and are making good on their New Year’s resolutions to improve, recording a 4-2 SU mark in January, the latest win being an upset of Utah at the Little Caesar’s Arena last night. Rookie G Cade Cunningham led the rally against Utah with a career-high 29 pts., as Detroit trailed by 22 pts. (54-32) in the 2nd quarter.

We’ve been burned a few times by pointing out the Pistons’ poor pointspread record off a SU win (now 6-19 the last 1+ season’s counting the Utah win-and-cover), and we’ll point out the Pistons haven’t won 3 straight since the 2018-19 season, and the Bulls have won the last 9 against Detroit with an 8-0-1 spread mark in that streak. Chicago also has been a bully, sporting a 7-4 spread mark last 11 laying double-digits. Still might favor the “under” a bit more, as the series has been lower scoring than expected in 6 straight.
