Chicago Bulls vs Indiana Pacers Analysis
The Indiana Pacers head into the United Center on Wednesday night to face the Chicago Bulls in an Eastern Conference showdown. The Bulls are coming off an impressive 120-102 home victory over last seasons conference champs the Boston Celtics, upping their record to 2-2.
The Pacers record dipped to 1-3 after losing 120-106 in Philadelphia on Monday night against the 76ers. Philadelphia won the head-to-head season series 2-1 during the 2021-22 campaign, this will be the first of four games this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST/5:00 PST.
Bulls Prevail In Signature Win Over Celtics
The Chicago Bulls evened up their record with a tremendous 120-102 victory over the undefeated Boston Celtics. Demar Derozan led the team in scoring with 25 points while adding 5 assists & 5 rebounds.
Nikola Vucevic dominated the glass with a staggering 23 rebounds to go along with 18 points. Ayo Dosunmu also had his best game of the season with 22 points. The Celtics did shoot poorly but the story of the game may have been the disparaging difference in free throws opportunities.
The Bulls converted 26 of their 29 attempts while the Celtics went only 10 for 12. Chicago has struggled to score so far, ranking 23rd with only 108 points a game. They should improve as their #2 scorer Zach Lavine works himself back into the rotation for a full workload.
On the defensive end, the Bulls are 12th with 110 points a game. Derozan leads the team with 26.8 points a game. Nikola Vucevic has averaged 13 rebounds a game which ranks him 2nd in the NBA while also chipping in 18 points.
Young Pacers Squad Gets A For Effort
The rebuilding Indiana Pacers are coming off a 120-106 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers where the scoreboard didn’t reflect the teams effort. Tyrese Haliburton had a double-double and led Indiana in scoring with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 10 dimes.
Jalen Smith also had a double-double performance, while leading the team in rebounds with 10. The Pacers young nucleus still maintained an amazing energy & effort despite being overmatched against an obviously superior team.
This was also evident in their second game of the season against the San Antonio Spurs. The Pacers trailed by as many as 21 points but stormed back with 49 4th quarter points, only to fall short 137-134.
Scoring hasn’t been the issue for Indiana as they currently rank 7th with 117.8 points per game. However they have allowed a staggering 127 points a game, which ranks them 27th in the league.
Haliburton leads the team with 24 points a game while ranking 3rd in the NBA with 9.8 assists a game. The 6th overall pick Bennedict Mauthrin has also contributed a solid 22.3 points a game through the first four games of his career.
Chicago Bulls vs Indiana Pacers Prediction
The Chicago Bulls enter this contest as 8 points home favorites with a high total set at 234 It seems like the this will be a high scoring game as the Pacers aren’t stopping anyone while the Bulls have struggled early on the defensive end.
The Pacers are allowing 127 points per game and the Bulls have relied heavily on their “Big 3” of Derozan, Lavine and Vucevic to do the scoring. Opposing guards in particular have carved up the Pacers, including James Harden scoring 29 points, Bradley Beal 23 points, Devin Vassell 23 points and Cade Cunningham put up 22.
Zach Lavine has scored 19 & 23 in his two games since returning from injury. He should be seeing a minutes increase as he works himself back into the rotation. Lavine has a point total set at 21.5 and we will ride with the over in a game where he will see extra scoring opportunities.
