Cleveland Cavaliers vs Chicago Bulls Predictions

  • Cleveland Cavaliers -2.5 vs Chicago Bulls
  • Total: 210.5 Points
  • Cleveland has covered the spread in eight-straight games.
  • Cleveland is 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 home games, but they have lost five of their last six at home straight-up.

Both of these teams have been point spread machines recently. Chicago is 4-1 ATS in their last five games and Cleveland is 5-0 ATS in their last five games. I’ve been really impressed by the Cavs playing as well as they have without Sexton as it was a real possibility to see them go on a massive losing streak.

The Cavaliers did lose five in a row, but that might be the toughest stretch of games in the entire league this season as they got to face in a row…Boston, Boston, Brooklyn, Golden State, Brooklyn, Phoenix. They lost all four out of five understandably, but rebounded with four wins over lesser opponents in Orlando, Dallas, Miami (No Bam or Butler) and Washington. They have now lost two straight to Utah and Milwaukee so I’m seeing a very clear pattern here as Cleveland beats the teams below or even to them, and can’t get over the hump against the best teams in the league. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley have been fantastic for the Cavs and they can do some damage inside against Chicago who is a bottom seven team defending power forwards, but I’m not sure it’s going to be enough here.

Chicago has been the team to far exceed expectations this season, and at this point we have to take them as a serious contender to come out of the East. The moves they made to build the perimeter have been home runs and they are coming off an impressive four point win against Brooklyn followed up by a 12 point win against Denver without DeRozan. Lavine has picked up his scoring as well as his rebounding the last few games, and with Cleveland giving up almost 50 points a game to guards, I like him to have a good game. The Bulls are also 5th best defending point guards, and while DeRozan probably won’t be available and Caruso out with a hamstring issue they showed they can play good team defense the last couple games without them.

I like the Cavs team, but they lose to the best teams in the NBA and I put Chicago in that higher tier of teams, so my play will be to support the Bulls +2.5 on the road.

Official Play: Bulls +2.5
Player Prop: Zach Lavine Over Points+Rebounds+Assists

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Chicago Bulls Analysis from The GoldSheet

Chicago has won and covered four-straight, and rank 5th in net efficiency in that streak, but the Cavs are right behind them in that statistical segment despite being 2-2 straight-up in their last four. That overachieving efficiency mark is a contributing factor to the Cavs covering eight-straight games (4-4 straight-up). Note Cleveland owns one of the deepest rotations in the league, with eight players in double-digit minutes on the season and the Cavs are outrebounding foes 47-40 in their last ten games. Tough to choose between pair of streaking teams. Cleveland 9-2 vs. the points last 11 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, but BJ Bickerstaff’s Cavs have lost 5 of last 6 at home straight-up.
