Cleveland Cavaliers vs New York Knicks Analysis

The New York Knicks will travel to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland to battle the Cavs on Monday night. The Cavs improved to 28-19 after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 94-87 on Saturday night. The Knicks sit one game below .500 at 23-24 after a 110-102 home victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. In the first head-to-head meeting the Cavs prevailed, winning 126-109 at Madison Square Garden. This game will kickoff a light four game NBA slate on Monday night.

Cavs Look to Stay Hot

The Cavaliers bounced back from a loss against Chicago with a victory over Oklahoma City. Tonight the Cavs will look for their 7th win in their last eight games. Darius Garland tallied a team high 23 points and 11 assists on 9 for 20 from the field. Rookie Evan Mobley had a double-double of his own with 15 points and 17 rebounds. At 28-19 the Cavs currently sit at 5th place in the Eastern Conference. Lauri Markkanen will miss tonight’s game with an ankle injury, while Rajon Rondo is questionable with a nagging hamstring. The Cavalier offense is below average, ranking 22nd with only 107.2 points per game. However they play superior defense, as they allow only 102.5 points a game. That ranks them 2nd in points allowed behind only the Golden State Warriors.

Knicks Snap Three Game Skid

The New York Knicks ended a three game losing streak with a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon. RJ Barrett led the way with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. Julius Randle wasn’t far behind him with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Kemba Walker, Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel are all questionable on Monday night with various ailments. The Knicks are a defensive team that ranks 5th with only 104.5 points allowed per game. Offense has been harder to come by and they rank 27th with only 104 points scored a game.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs New York Knicks Prediction

The Cleveland Cavaliers come into this contest as 6.5 point favorites with a low total of 201.5. The Knicks are 5-2 against the spread in their last 7 games. However, the twin towers from Cleveland are a nightmare matchup for the Knicks offense. Both teams are bottom four in terms of pace of play. The under has cashed in 10 of the Knicks last 15 games and 6 of the last 9 Cavs games. We will roll with under as our official play. It is extremely low total but both teams will struggle to score 100 points in this defensive battle.

PREDICTION: UNDER 202

Cleveland Cavaliers vs New York Knicks Preview from GoldSheet

The Knicks enter this one off a 110-102 win-and-cover against the Clippers on national TV yesterday, snapping a 3-game losing streak thanks to a big game by G RJ Barrett (28 pts, 14 rebs., 6 assists). New York was without PG Kemba Walker (knee), who was partially rested due to the back-to-back set and Coach Thibs said he’ll likely be ready for this one.

The Knicks are 3-2 vs. the number on the road when unrested and 12-8 vs. the points over the last 2 years when playing 2nd of back-to-backs. Rested Cleveland has won six of seven straight up after slipping by Oklahoma City 94-87 (laying 12) Saturday but Cavs only 4-9-1 against the points the last 14, a period in which they ranked 14th in net efficiency (rank 4th overall this season). This is the first meeting for these teams this season, with New York winning and covering five of the previous seven in the series.

Cavs have covered just one of its last five laying points at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, while the Knicks haven’t been very effective as a road dog of late, dropping five of six chances. New York outrebounding foes by seven per game over last 10, and Cavs likely without F Lauri Markkanen due to a high ankle sprain, although PF Evan Mobley, C Jarrett Allen and PF/C Kevin Love are adept at cleaning the glass. Will take a lead Cavs have straightened out under HC BJ Bickerstaff.
