Cleveland Cavaliers vs Orlando Magic Analysis

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to limp into the playoffs, and they’ll try and get a much needed win against Orlando tonight as they are a 9-point home favorite with a total of 217 points.

Orlando has lost two in a row to Oklahoma City and Sacramento, and they’ll be getting a boost as Wendell Carter Jr will return to the lineup tonight. Let’s take a look at the game, and find a pick for Monday night!

Cleveland Keeps Slipping

The Cavs are down to the No. 7 seed in the East as the injuries and lack of depth is finally catching to them. They were the ultimate spread-covering team in the first half of the season, but it’s been rough recently as they are only 3-6-1 against the number in their last ten games. They are coming off of three consecutive losses to Chicago, Toronto and the Lakers, and this Orlando team tonight might not be a walkover.

The Cavs will have a nice advantage in the backcourt as Garland and LeVert should be able to take advantage of Cole Anthony and RJ Hampton, but they’re going to need a big defensive night from Markkanen as he will draw the duties of guarding Wendell Carter.

Mobley has been playing well, but is starting to fatigue and his points are slowing down as he’s had 13 or fewer in four straight. Garland has gone for 24 or more in eight out of ten, and they’ll need that from him tonight and then some if they’re going to cover this number.

Magic Not Quite There Yet

The Magic have some pieces for the future, but there’s not upside right now as the season winds down. They lost the last two games (both without Wendell Carter), but beat Oklahoma City and Golden State before that so we can see glimpses of solid play, but it’s not consistent, and outside of a couple players it’s a pretty rough roster.

Cole Anthony has been good for them this year, and he’s scored 14 or more in 11 out of 14 games so if they can get an above average night from him that will pay dividends in cancelling out LeVert or Garland. They are 1-4 against the spread over their last five, but they are 5-5 ATS their last ten road games so I don’t expect a blowout tonight away from home for them, and that’s where I’m heading with this pick.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Orlando Magic Prediction

We have to go all the way back to February 9th to find a win for Cleveland by more than nine points which is the spread tonight. They have two overtime wins in that span, and they’ve really struggled without Jarrett Allen.

The advantage that Cleveland will have in the backcourt is big, but I believe the frontcourt advantage goes to Orlando and it should be good enough to keep it close. I don’t see Cleveland blowing out many teams right now, I’ll happily take the Magic +9
