Clippers vs Rockets Analysis
After a close loss to the Suns on Wednesday, the Rockets will continue their road trip with a matchup against the Clippers on the second night of a back-to-back. Ironically, the Clippers’ last game was a road loss to the Suns as well on Tuesday. Tonight will be the first matchup of the season between these two Western Conference foes and the line is set at Los Angeles Clippers -11 with a total of 227.5 points.
Clippers Underperforming
The Clippers came into the 2021–2022 NBA season with an optimistic outlook, but so far the team has failed to play up to their lofty expectations. The Clippers are 16-23 against Western Conference foes this season and are 4-6 in their last ten games.
The Clippers will be without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard like they have been for a solid chunk of the season. The Clippers have been carried lately by veterans Luke Kennard and Reggie Jackson who are averaging 11.6 points and 17.5 points respectively.
Rockets Look to End Skid
The Western Conferences’ worst team, the Houston Rockets, is currently in the midst of a five-game losing streak. The Rockets covered the spread last night for the first time in their last five contests in a close loss in Phoenix.
The Rockets are 1-9 in their last ten games with no signs of heating up. They are shooting just 44.4% from the field and are averaging 108.9 points per game. The Rockets are also expected to be missing two of their top four scorers, including leading scorer Christian Wood.
Clippers vs Rockets Prediction
This is the first matchup between these two teams this season and the first of two matchups between them this month. The Rockets are on the second night of back-to-back road games while the Clippers had a day to rest since their last loss.
For this matchup, I recommend Houston’s team total under 109 points. Without two of their leading scorers, it’s hard to define where Houston’s offense will come from. Also, the Clippers need a bounce-back game, and there is no better of a team to feast on than the Rockets. With both teams having eyes toward the All-Star Break, I expect the Clippers to handle business while keeping the Rockets under 109 points.

Clippers vs Rockets Preview from GoldSheet
Houston turned in a game effort at Phoenix last night, taking advantage Chris Paul’s early exit in last night’s game, throwing a scare into the NBA’s best team before ultimately losing 124-121. That was an aberrational performance for the Rockets, who have lost six-straight and ten of their last 11, with seven of the losses coming by ten points or more.
The Clippers have covered three-straight, but they’ve generated only three double-digit victories in their last 32 games, and hold no edge in the series against the Rockets, who have covered six of the last eight against Los Angeles.
Rockets are just 4-18 against the number the last 1.5 years playing the second night of back-to-back games this season, Houston has surrendered 127 ppg and 55% over its last five games.
Ty Lue seems to be getting quite a bit from the “stand-ins” on his injury riddled team. Still have issues laying double digits with LA squad somewhat unfamiliar with the role (0-2 this season) while the tanking Rockets are 12-7-1 getting 10+ points dating to late last season.
