The Denver Nuggets are in Dallas on Monday night in a Western Conference contest against the Mavericks. Nikola Jokic and his league top-10 scoring average of 25.3 points per game square off against Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis at American Airlines Center.
The Mavericks opened as a 4-point home favorites with a total of 209. On Sunday, the Nuggets completed a 5-0 homestand with a dominating 124-95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Dallas was last seen earning a 123-109 win over instate rival San Antonio on Friday night. The victory over the Spurs was the Mavericks’ fourth in five games.
The Mavericks have won six of their eight games this season against Western Conference foes. Porzingis has begun to hit his stride after missing a chunk of the early season contests to injury. Porzingis scored a season-high 32 points in the team’s eighth win of the young 2021-22 season. Doncic added 32 points, 15 assists and completed the triple-double with 12 rebounds on Friday night.
“Playing with Luka is extremely easy,” Porzingis told the national media in the Friday post-game presser. Kristaps added, “He takes so much pressure off everybody else. Makes everybody else better and get more open looks.”
Denver has scuffled to adjust to being heavy-handed offensively. Jokic has carried the team offensively with his 25-plus point game average. The All-NBA center fell just short of a triple-double in Sunday’s game against Portland. The Nuggets big registered 28 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists across 28 minutes of court time versus the Trail Blazers.
Guard Will Barton missed Sunday’s game due to lower back tightness. In addition, forward Michael Porter Jr. was inactive for the fourth straight game. Head coach Michael Malone said that he [Porter] is out “for the foreseeable future” with lower back pain.
Monday night’s matchup will be the team’s second meeting this season. The Nuggets earned the “Dub” in the team’s Oct. 30 contest at Ball Arena with a 106-75 blowout.
Denver is playing the second-leg of a back-to-back while Dallas hosts the Nuggets with two days of rest. This season, the Nuggets are just 2-3 away from Ball Arena, and the Mavericks have been near perfect on American Airlines hardwood with a 5-1 mark.

Dallas Mavericks vs Denver Nuggets Analysis from The GoldSheet
Denver enters this game riding a five-game win streak (covered last four), as Nugget C Nikola Jokic is at 27 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists per game in his last four games, while shooting 56-percent. However, the latest of those successes came just last night at home against Portland, and they blew out the Blazers 124-95. Dallas has had a few days off since taking care of business in San Antonio and handling the Spurs. Undoubtedly Mav HC Jason Kidd will remind his team of the first meeting between the two, when the Nuggets clobbered Dallas by 31 (106-75) and don’t think the Mavs will shoot 29.5%(!) again, including 8-of-37 on treys.
